Win98SE/ClamWin 94.0 vs 94.1/95.1 DB Update Issue

ClamFresh was patched when ClamWin was upgraded from 94.0 > 94.1 and, using Win98SE, the DB download no longer functioned. See image 1:

https://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1CtPzA

(Note: click the red cross zoom function to read the image)

FreshClam 94.0 and 94.1 DB download did work when the following "WinSocket Error" appeared. See image 2:

https://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1CvfmJ

The "WinSocket Error" was apparently fixed, and, once again, FreshClam 94.1 would not download the DB.

WinDiff was offered, which comes free on the Win98SE CD, as a means to examine FreshClam 94.0 and 94.1 to determine and resolve the differences. A copy of WinDiff and how to use it, with screen-shots, can be found at:
https://computerperformance.co.uk/w2k3/utilities/windiff.htm Of course, there are more sophisticated comparison software applications available.

Note: Inserting FreshClam 94.0 into Clamwin 94.1 allows the user to download the DB, but taking the same approach with ClamWin 95.1 does not work.

The WinSocket differences between Win98SE vs XP and Vista would be the first place I would examine in searching for a solution to this issue. I would suggest, if this turns out to be the "problem", that a Win98SE plug-in be created as your organization moves to accommodate even higher OS' i.e. Windows 7.

I cannot believe in a World of ClamWin users that someone doesn't have the ability to correct this issue.

P.S.

Was the Outlook help issue ever resolved: Outlook>Help>About ClamWin Free AntiVirus>An error occurred in ClamWin Free Antivirus About Box [Errno 2] No such file or directory?

https://forums.clamwin.com/viewtopic.php?t=2305&highlight= https://forums.clamwin.com/viewtopic.php?t=2305&highlight=

it often happens also on win98, please try the dns tool
anyway it's pointless to fix 0.94, use 0.95.1

Sherpya, I know you're overworked and underpaid, but your answers border on the ...................!

FreshClam was patched between 94.0 and 94.1 - see image one for proof! FreshClam 94.0 when inserted in the 94.1 ClamWin update will allow you to download the DB. If you try to insert FreshClam 94.0 into the ClamWin 95.1 update, it will not allow you to download the DB.

THIS IS A COMMUNICATIONS SOFTWARE ISSUE! Winsock anyone? It appears that FreshClam was patched to a point where it would only function with Win2000, XP and Vista. Use a comparison software capability to find the differences and correct the issue - the software WinDiff is FREE and available on the Win98SE CD!

Other FREE software offerings have accommodated this issue - see CCleaner - so can the Genius' at ClamWin!!!!!

I give up! What does your answer have to do with FreshClam (ClamWin's communications component) and the fact that FreshClam 94.0 downloaded the DB - BUT - was patched and hasn't worked since as regards downloading the DB while using the Win98SE OS.

At the very least, just revise FreshClam 94.1 and in turn 95.1 to function in the same manner as FreshClam 94.0 so that you get the following warning when downloading the update:

WARNING: invalid DNS reply. Falling back to HTTP Mode.

Just reprogram FreshClam 94.1 and in turn 95.1 to go through the process that results in the above warning....since FreshClam 94.0 works when when BD update falls back to the HTTP mode!

Please, no more convoluted, obfuscated answers - JUST FIX IT!

So has this been fixed, and where do I go to download the version that works on Windows 98 and that also updates without any errors?

Many thanks.
