You should make these exclusions for ClamWin in Windows Defender (they work okay on my computer):
Clamscan.exe from the ClamWin \bin folder Freshclam.exe from the ClamWin \bin folder The ClamWin quarantine folder in C:\ProgramData\.clamwin\quarantine QRecover.exe from the ClamWin \bin folder in case you someday need to restore something from ClamWin quarantine My ClamWin scans actually are shorter if I set the Limit size to scan at 10 mb--it's more efficient evidently. I also de-selected the Limit option to extract files from archives. Malware in an archive file does not do anything until the file is actually unarchived. When this happens, your primary real-time AV (you should have one) should catch it then. ClamWin is best used as a backup scanner to your primary AV. If you still have problems with Windows Defender scanning ClamWin, exclude all the ClamWin .exe files in the ClamWin \bin folder from Windows Defender scans, but I don't think you will have to go that far. Hi
Thanks for tips The issue do not come from any scan with Microsoft Defender AntiMalware service but from Microsof itself. When I start ClamWin after a moment it scan the folder directory of the MS AntiMalware Executable Defender and then Defender start to work alone and my CPU go 50% busy with heating. This issue come from there : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/378578/windows-defender-creating-thousands-of-files.html?page=1&pageSize=10&sort=oldest And then the folder defender grow up like 10Gb temp files ... and clamwin take 24h to scan the PC ... Everytime I use ClamWin, Defender will start and push my CPU busy and hot with creating this Temp files in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Store\ and there I find 9Gb temp file and it grow up more each time I use ClamWin. The issue come from Microsoft Defender itself its a big BUG from Microsoft W10 20H2 and certainly other build FIX : You have to delete this full folder : C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Store\ and update defender to 1.1.18100.6 (from 1.1.18100.5 BUGGED !) |

Well, it looks like this was a Microsoft Windows Defender problem and that you have solved it. Defender should not do much when ClamWin is scanning if you make those exclusions I mentioned.
I do not really like Windows Defender. It is good, but it does not give the user enough control. Microsoft also does not update it very often--they think that cloud protection will be enough if you get a virus for which they don't have a signature (they are wrong). I continue to use it because it is free and simple. A Defender user should not have to worry about files/folders. Thanks for using ClamWin! |

If you do not use Defender, then why did you write this in a post above?
"it still create many dump files in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History/store" when ClamWin work" How did you know this if you do not use Defender? Regards, |

Because this is what happens when I use ClamWin ... every ClamWin scan the AV Defender will create many dump files in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History/store" and Defender do that every time ClamWin will scan This happens without using Defender ... I use ONLY ClamWin and when I use ClamWin Scan, the AV Defender create this dump files |

Well, did you do like I suggested and exclude clamscan, freshclam, and ClamWin quarantine from the Defender scans?
Anyway, you are using Windows Defender if it is installed on your computer--it scans automatically. One thing you can do is to exclude the C:\ drive from Windows Defender. If you do that, it will not scan anything on your C: drive. You will be unprotected, however, because ClamWin does not provide good protection. It is designed to be a second scanner to a real-time AV like Defender. This is about all the help that I can provide you with. Regards, |
