Hey clammers!

Great work from you guys, thanks for awesome product.

I double-checked before posting, and understand that System32 files are locked and normally return "permission denied", so am ignoring all those, as advised in Help and here in the forums.

But the following files do not show up in a search of the forums:

WARNING: Can't open file C:\Windows\Tasks\GoogleUpdateTaskMachineCore.job: Permission denied
WARNING: Can't open file C:\Windows\Tasks\GoogleUpdateTaskMachineUA.job: Permission denied
WARNING: Can't open file C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-n..n_service_datastore_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.10586.0_none_5db42904e056ea84\dnary.xsd: Permission denied
WARNING: Can't open file C:\Windows.old\Users\jason\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\UPPS\UPPS.bin: Permission denied

Any advice on whether I should be worried about these? All my drivers are uptodate using iobit drive booster. I used CW after an uptodate scan with Malwarebytes which showed nothing. Run Bitdefender free as my AV, but this is a second hand machine. CW scan did bring up Petya ransomware in the old version of windows. Seems as if the old owner got owned, did a fresh install and flicked this PC off. CW memory scan not showing any sign of viruses.

I've also done scans with Kaspersky and Emisoft standalone scanners but nothing showing under these.

Thanks for any advice,

ILUVCLAM

Most "permission denied" notices are okay--malware usually likes to be more stealthy than letting you see a notice like that. If you are concerned about a running program/process, you could get into Windows Safe Mode and then do a scan. Safe mode opens with a minimum of processes/programs/drivers, and lots of malware can't hide then.

Kaspersky and Emsisoft are good tools. You don't need much more in the way of backup security programs--just keep them current.

Thanks for using ClamWin!
