I do apologise if this has already been covered somewhere, but I cannot find where it might be explained why my Log Viewer has suddenly posted the following on each and every Virus Database Update:
"WARNING: Your ClamAV installation is OUTDATED!
WARNING: Local version: 0.96.2 Recommended version: 0.96.3
DON'T PANIC! Read https://www.clamav.net/support/faq"
I run a rather ancient setup through Windows 2000 Professional, but I'm not sure if this has anything to do with anything regarding the problem, or even if it's really a problem at all, as the actual 'main.cvd', 'daily.cld' and 'bytecode.cld' sigs appear to be updating correctly and affording the AV cover required by the machine.
I'm afraid the FAQ in question might just as well be written in the Martian language for all I seem to understand it - it would appear that I have to use Open Source in some way to get this Version updated, and I am a non-technical user where programming is concerned (I write HTML and that's about it!).
I got as far as downloading what appears to be a ZIP file called 'clamav-0.96.3.tar.gz', but when I unzip it, I cannot find a wizard-style executable file to commence the updating of the Version. I have tried uninstalling the current version of ClamWin AV and downloading a fresh copy of the very latest version shown on the website, but installing this from scratch only results in the same message being show after the initial updates are carried out after installation.
I would be obliged if someone could point out a non-jargonese step-by-step guide as to how to carry out this upgrade - I don't mind having a go at things such as this (for instance, I have previously fiddled about with the registry successfully in an organised way, without detriment to my PC setup) if I can be led in the right direction.
Thanks very much.

It appears that the Log Viewer is conveying a known misleading warning - I have read on one of the pages that the Production team probably have a newer version in progress but not ready for upgrade. Please ignore this question.

Note that the warning was for Clam AV--not ClamWin. Clam AV furnishes the scan engine and signatures/updates used by ClamWin. The latest Clam AV version is .96.3, but the latest ClamWin version is still .96.2. I am not sure if ClamWin will have a .96.3 update, as .96.3 was nothing really major. The next version of Clam AV is supposed to be in November, perhaps the ClamWin developers will wait until then.

Thanks for that. It can be a little confusing differentiating between one and the other. I suppose I shall just have to put up with the silly little message until both types of Clam 'synchronise', as it were. The main thing is continuous protection for the PC, which is thankfully ongoing. Best wishes.

Evidently ClamWin suppresses the warning except in the log.
