It gets as far as: "ClamAV update process started at Sat Jul 03 12:44:54 2010" and hangs. It doesn't appear to be polling the site.

I tried putting line "194.109.142.194 database.clamav.net" in my HOSTS file and it made no difference.

I can download direct from https://database.clamav.net/daily.cvd fine.

How do I get the updates to work via the clamwin software?

Make sure that automatic virus updates is enabled/checked in the ClamWin Internet Updates configuration tab and that they are set up for the frequency, time, and day that you want.

Yes, I've checked those settings. Yesterday I changed the update frequency to hourly from daily.

In the db folder I note there are folders named "clamav-<big>.clamtmp". There are 3 for when I switched on, then one every hour. Maybe it is running the updates and not telling me?

Still when I kick off an update manually, the display hangs as described above & I end up canceling it. I would have thought that at least I would get a message to say that it's up to date?

Thanks for your help guitarbob Smile

Happy 4th July!

Sometimes you get temp files in the ClamWin database folder. If they don't go away after a while, you can manually delete them with no consequences. Since version .96, I have noticed that ClamWin sometimes "chews" on my manual updates or has trouble "digesting" them, but it always accomplishes them for me. I have not noticed any problem with the manual updates on my machines (Vista, Win 7). Version .96 does seem to be doing something differently when updatilng, and perhaps this is a problem for Win 98 machines. You might try to search the posts on the ClamWin forum to see if you can get any more information. If you can't, I guess you will have to do manual updates until the ClamWin developers can address this problem.

Happy Fourth to you, too! I came to ClamWin some time ago when my AV dropped support for Win 98. Have you tried the ClamSentinel real-ltime front end for ClamWin? It is a separate project from ClamWin and is available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web. It was originally designed for Win 98 machines!
