Hi i am getting a really strange problem with clamwin, i found someone had had a similar problem but managed to resolve it but i cannot seem to, ,every time i try to download the virus updates i get the following message:

Could not start process:
"C:\Program Files\ClamWin\bin\freshclam.exe" --stdout --datadir="C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\.clamwin\db" --config-file="c:\docume~1\cb\locals~1\temp\tmpj_7vea" --log="c:\docume~1\cb\locals~1\temp\tmpy4cbhj"
Error: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

or if i try to run a scan i get the following::

Could not start process:
"C:\Program Files\ClamWin\bin\clamscan.exe" --tempdir "c:\docume~1\cb\locals~1\temp" --keep-mbox --stdout --database="C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\.clamwin\db" --log="c:\docume~1\cb\locals~1\temp\tmp74_n7p" --max-ratio=0 --no-mail --infected --max-files=500 --max-space=10240 --max-recursion=5 --show-progress --recursive --exclude="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\config\\default" --exclude="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\config\\SAM" --exclude="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\config\\SECURITY" --exclude="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\config\\software" --exclude="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\config\\software.alt" --exclude="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\config\\system" --exclude="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\config\\system.alt" --exclude="[^\]*\.dbx$" --exclude="[^\]*\.tbb$" --exclude="[^\]*\.pst$" --exclude="[^\]*\.dat$" --exclude="[^\]*\.log$" --exclude="[^\]*\.evt$" --exclude="[^\]*\.nsf$" --exclude="[^\]*\.ntf$" --exclude="[^\]*\.chm$" --kill "C:\\"
Error: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Any ideas??

I uninstalled the program and cleaned the directorys out (both program files and the default documents and settings, completely cleaned the registry of all clamwin entrys and tried reinstalling - same thing occured, so i again removed everything and tried installing an earlier version and i get the same thing??? really very odd as i have been using clamwin for as long as i can remember with no problems, i have checked the folder attributes to make sure they are not write protected and they are not , i even downloaded the virus cvd's manually and put them in the correct folder and it is still doing it!!!REALLY getting annoyed now!

Any help gratefully received
cheers
Dave

I'll give it a go. Have you recently made any changes to your system that might be responsible for the problem?

After you uninstalled ClamWin, did you download the latest version from the ClamWin web site? If not, then you might try that.

If you still have problems, the only suggestion I have is to copy your clamwin conf file and post it here for someone more knowledgeable to look at to see if they can spot something.

Your log looks similar to mine, and I'm running okay. You didn't say whether or not you have downloaded and installed a "clean" copy of Clamwin instead of one you already had on your machine. A clean one might be best, if you haven't already done so. Otherwise, wait until one of the developers checks in.

If you are on the Web a lot, you need to use a resident scanner and keep ClamWin as a backup.
