hi,

thanks a lot for making a opensource Antivirus soft.

is there a way of checking whether manually downloaded database is complete (sometimes downloads are incomplete/corrupt). i think something like MD5 checksum is used in some soft(i am not sure). -thanks. Smile

During a manual update, you will see an onscreen message if there is a problem. Additionally, if the database on your computer becomes corrupt, you will see a message during the scan.

Except for the occasional very temporary problem with one of the mirrors, Clam signature updates are very reliable. I once had a virus disable a couple of the major security software programs on my computer, but I could still scan with ClamWin, and the signature updates kept coming in because they use SSL.

Regards,

hi,

thanks for the immediate reply.

i was wondering if it is possible to check the completeness of the downloaded file(database) .as,i access internetcafe and then transfer to my comp. generally, some soft use MD5checksum with which u can check the integrity of the downloaded file.

your method,it is possible to recognize corruption only when running clamwin.

I don't know how it works, but the Clam updates are also supposed to be digitally signed to ensure their integrity. In addition, Clam has loads of email services that depend upon it. If there was a problem, they would know about it fast! What I was trying to say was that any potential corruption would probably be on your end--it's happened to me.
