I have a machine that has no access to the internet. It is pretty secure from viruses since I don't go online. BUT, I do use flashdrives. I suspect that I may have infected my machine while trying to help another poor soul. When I went to check for viruses, I realized that the virus database hadn't been updated since I installed it on the machine. (duh!)
So, my question is, can I download the database weekly, carry it to work on a flashdrive, and install it. I could probably do this pretty easily with AVG FREE, but I'd rather support the open source community when possible.
I don't know if I am the only one in this position. I tend to think not. Would it be a good idea to have an email notification service with a link to the latest database sent out weekly? Just a thought.
Thanks,
Dave Johnson
PS. The Trojan is question is called "SHeur."something.

Sounds like you may be a candidate for a portable version of ClamWin. See the link below. You can build it yourself or use the official ClamWin Portable version, which is another application that is not officially under the ClamWin project.

I Think he mean He want to download a definition file direct from website, like another AntiVirus Software. I come here and looking for this solution, too. The way you tell him is one solution that can be solved (I just know, too) but I still be confused why this software don't have that more convenience option. Offline update file can be compressed size and amount of file and don't need space for portable software and easily just double-click.
