Under Windows XP SP 2
ClamWin version 0.88

Whenever I click on update I get this error message:

Could not start process:
"C:\Archivos de programa\ClamWin\bin\freshclam.exe" --stdout --datadir="/cygdrive/C/Documents and Settings/All Users/.clamwin/db" --config-file="/cygdrive/c/docume~1/jorge/config~1/temp/tmpprkjnm" --log="/cygdrive/c/docume~1/jorge/config~1/temp/tmpzd-gnp"
Error: Cannot locate a COMSPEC environment variable to use as the shell

I've tried to check for the COMSPEC environment variable and it does exist. Then I tried to copy & paste this command
into the cmd and I got the following error message:
cannot parse /user...

Then I remplace
"C:\Archivos de programa\ClamWin\bin\freshclam.exe" --stdout --datadir="/cygdrive/C/Documents and Settings/All Users/.clamwin/db" --config-file="/cygdrive/c/docume~1/jorge/config~1/temp/tmpprkjnm" --log="/cygdrive/c/docume~1/jorge/config~1/temp/tmpzd-gnp"
by
"C:\Archivos de programa\ClamWin\bin\freshclam.exe" --stdout --datadir="/cygdrive/c/Documents and Settings/All Users/.clamwin/db" --config-file="/cygdrive/c/docume~1/jorge/config~1/temp/tmpprkjnm" --log="/cygdrive/c/docume~1/jorge/config~1/temp/tmpzd-gnp"
and it did work...

but could you tell me how I can do this remplacement once and not every time I want to update the virus database?

Thank you very much in advance.

could you please type:
SET COMSPEC in the command prompt and paste it here (also tell us which OS you are using).

I couldn't figure out what did you change in the second command by comparing the two. Please highlight.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear:

OS : Windows XP SP2
COMSPEC=C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe

Before: --datadir="/cygdrive/C/Documents and Settings/All Users/.clamwin/db"
After: --datadir="/cygdrive/c/Documents and Settings/All Users/.clamwin/db"

In the first statement, the one which is not working, there is a capital c ("C"). In the second one the capital c ("C") was replaced by a normal c ("c").

Hope it helps.
Thank you very much.

That shouldn't matter in cygwin, really.

However you may try and change the database location in clamwin prefernces to lowercase C "c:\Documents..". This will chnage the command line too. However I doubt it will help.

I thought cygwin was case sensitive like UNIX... anyway, in the rest of the commands used by freshclam the "c" appears always in not capital letters.

I'm going to check what you told me. Thank you very much.

I've checked the ClamUpdateLog.txt log file and the update works fine since I did my "homefix" 3 days ago... if it happens again I'll change what you've told me and I'll come here to let you know.

Thank you very much.
