I spoke too soon.
I downloaded the most current main and daily cdv file into my Clamwin DB folder. (installed on my usb drive. And if it matters, using a P4 running XP PRO SP2. Using ClamWin Portable v 90.1.1 from PortableApps.com, installed yesterday.)

When I try to run Clamwin, message says "You have not downloaded database, would you like to download now?"

If I choose yes, I again get the message " . . . . . . ERROR: getfile: Unknown response from remote server (IP: 66.111.55.10) . . . . . etc etc"

And the "Scan" button is greyed out and unavailable.

So even though the files now exist in the database folder, ClamWin is not recognizing them. I have pointed Clamwin to the folder using the Preferences dialog.
Is there another step I must take to initialize the database that I downloaded manually?

Hoping to hear from you soon
(I really don't want to go back to Norton's). Confused

Well, thanks for responding anyway.
If they can't help me, am I allowed to come back here to ask questions?????

sure, the reason I directed you there is that ClamWin portable uses different configuration for db location and they know better why is that happening

I ended up deleting and re-installing ClamWin portable, and that did the trick.
I guess somehow the initial installation got slightly corrupted, but not badly enough to prevent the app from opening.

All is working fine now.
hooray!

So I am looking forward to using this software, I hear lots of good comments about it.
