Email message scanning seems to occur when a message is opened - and in fact seems to occur every time the same message is opened. If a message has attachments the scan time can be rather lengthy. This is an annoying behavior - particularly since the same scanning operations are repeated for items that have already been scanned. Granted, as updates to the virus database(s) occur the re-scanning may catch something that was previously unknown.

Can Clamwin accommodate message scanning upon "download" rather than upon "opening"? For those users who leave their computer on and their email software (i.e. Outlook) running 24/7 the performance - from the user's perspective - would be improved since messages and attachments could, in many cases, be accessed without the scanning delay. This would be a substantial reduction in the time to open large messages or large attachments. Additionally, the scanning would occur only one time and not impact future use - although an on-demand message scan could be included to address virus database updates for those user's who were concerned about unknown threats at the itme of an original download scan.

This issue is of note in that many commercial AV tools do not impose the rather lengthy and annoying delay upon the user opening a message.

there is no point in bumping this thread. This issue was raised number of times in the forum and will be addressed in the version 1 release.

I have the same problem. It is necesary more performance in clamwin.

When will it be version 1 prepared? Is there any date?

Open source projects don't really set deadlines for themselves. I believe the proposed time frame has been discussed in other threads, though, if you don't mind searching.
