I just installed ClamWin and when I asked it to download an update of the database, I got the following in the update window:
Code:

-------------------
Completed
-------------------

as well as a balloon message saying that the update didn't succeed and that I should check the logs, however, when I check the logs, they are blank, in fact the files don't even exist. However, there is a file in my Temp folder called ClamWin1.log that has the following:
Code:
Could not write to the log file C:\Documents and Settings\MalcolmM\.clamwin\log\ClamUpdateLog.txt. Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'c:\\docume~1\\malcolmm\\locals~1\\temp\\tmp1ytbza'
Unable to remove file c:\docume~1\malcolmm\locals~1\temp\tmp1ytbza. Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'c:\\docume~1\\malcolmm\\locals~1\\temp\\tmp1ytbza'
Could not write to the log file C:\Documents and Settings\MalcolmM\.clamwin\log\ClamUpdateLog.txt. Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'c:\\docume~1\\malcolmm\\locals~1\\temp\\tmpd3llvc'
Unable to remove file c:\docume~1\malcolmm\locals~1\temp\tmpd3llvc. Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'c:\\docume~1\\malcolmm\\locals~1\\temp\\tmpd3llvc'

I have managed to update the database by running freshclam manually from the command line, but there is still one more problem.

When I ask ClamWin to scan my hard drive, I get the following message in the scan window:
Code:
ERROR: Can't open c:\docume~1\malcolmm\locals~1\temp\tmpgobksi in append mode (check permissions!).
ERROR: Problem with internal logger.

-------------------
Completed
-------------------

Which is strange, because it is able to write to the ClamWin1.log file in the same location, which contains the following:
Code:
Could not read from log file c:\docume~1\malcolmm\locals~1\temp\tmpgobksi. Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'c:\\docume~1\\malcolmm\\locals~1\\temp\\tmpgobksi'
Could not write to the log file C:\Documents and Settings\MalcolmM\.clamwin\log\ClamScanLog.txt. Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'c:\\docume~1\\malcolmm\\locals~1\\temp\\tmpgobksi'

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks

this is second time I hear about it recently. I am not sure what is wrong here. Could you please provide some more info:
1. OS Version and latest updates
2. what other a/v antispyware products are installed

Windows XP SP2 with all the latest windows updates
No other antivirus programs running, although I do have Spybot running, but it only runs when I ask it to.
I do have ZoneAlarm running, but clamwin has full access to the internet.

I found something in the FAQ about the blank log file issue, and I do have OpenSSH which also uses cygwin, so I did what the FAQ said and replaced the cygwig1.dll with the one from ClamWin and still no luck.

I haven't tried a reboot yet, so will let you know tomorrow when I get back to work if that helped with the problem.

Okay, the reboot didn't work.

But everything works just fine on my home PC. Confused

I decided to uninstall OpenSSH and reinstall ClamWin, and it now works. Smile

It seems OpenSSH's cygwin clashes with that of ClamWin. So only one can be had at the same time. Confused

I saw the FAQ and tried what is suggested (as I mentioned in a previous post), but it still didn't work. Anyway, I wasn't using OpenSSH that much anymore, so it wasn't too great-a-loss.

Hi!

I had the same problem. The FAQ-Answer worked for me. Thanks!

Cheers, Tobias
