Hi everyone.
I have Clamwin installed on a windows 2000 server machine. I noticed some days ago the DB was no more updated and have read solutions posted here in the forum.
None of the solutions posted worked for me.
I also installed the new release 0.103.2 but yet no update.
Here is the error message from the update report:

I am actually maintaining the db by manually getting the daily.cvd and overwriting the previous (I assume I do not have to replace the main.cvd)
If someone can help I would be grateful.
I will go on to update manually in the meantime and, in case of no solutions, I will look for an alternative AV but there aren't many choices for Win2000 (if anyone can suggest a valid one it would be great).

If you can update manually, that probably means everything is okay. Clam AV seems to update only once daily, so you aren't missing any updates. if you do a manual one. On my PC, I just set it to update daily and forget about it. Sometimes they have a mirror problem, but it is usually corrected by the next update or so. You can set ClamWin to update at logon, you know.
The Clam AV signatures are just not enough to provide good protection to Windows computers. The ClamWin developers recommend that you use ClamWin as a backup to a real-time AV. ClamWin only scans on-demand.
For extra protection, look at the security tools provided by NoVirusThanks. Some are free and some are paid. Also, the separate Tiny Wall firewall uses the Windows firewall and provides some extra protection as well, but some people (like me) have a hard time living with it.
Regards,

Unfortunately it seems not to be a mirror problem because I installed same version on another PC with windows 10 and it update smooth.
I will continue to investigate the win2000 pc (internet connection is OK).

Good suggestion! I have used this a couple of times in the past. I just forgot about it. Try it!

Yes, I tried also this solution but had the very same errors in logfile.
The thing is that i can't download manually definitions from win2000 pc, i do not get access from database.clamav.net and I tried firefox, opera and wget also but response is "Error 403 FORBIDDEN".
I am actually downloading from win10 pc and then copy to the other Pc by tcp/ip.
So maybe the problem are old protocols of win 2000, I don't know.
I can resolve by automating transfers from win10 pc to win2000 pc if there is no solution.

"I can resolve by automating transfers from win10 pc to win2000 pc if there is no solution." Seems to be the best solution for now. Win 2000 is 21 years old now.
But Win 98 is even older!
ClamWin used to beta test versions on older machines. Alch was beta testing Win 98 on a VM, but now I don't know. As far as I know beta testers for the recent version were Alch, Sherpya, and me. That;s now enough if you depend upon ClamWin! You can't expect it to work if you don't help test it.

Hello and good morning.
I gladly would help to beta test on windows 2000 or help in any other way if instructed on how and what to do.

The testing period wasn't long enough this time. I had downloaded RC1 and was testing on Win XP (VM), Win 8.1, and Linux Mint with Wine. Before I had tested for my usual 24 hour minimum, the final version was released. In retrospect, I should have posted on the beta board that I was indeed, participating.

Hello Lipper, good to year from you. I think Alch was in a real hurry to get a new version up though.
All we are doing, however, is just passing the basic Clam AV Linux updates through for Windows. Some newer functionality is not used--that has been the case since version 0.95, when I lost some functionality that I was using for sigmaking.
Thanks for using ClamWin all these years!

Hello all
Just wanted to give my experience with a variety of operating systems with the new version put out this a month ago
I use clam along with the clam sentinel (closing the sentinel has had no impact on clam resources)
Windows 7 - working fine and quickly although I have not tried a full scan yet. It is now working concurrently with the Immunet which was found on ClamAV site. The immunet can at times take the full 8gig memory
Windows 2000 and windows 98 ( dual boot with 2 different hard drives & 768 memory):
Win 2000 chatters the whole day and I had to increase the virtual memory
Win 98 chatters the whole day, took 3 hours for the definitions to load to start a full scan, I can not update via 98 so I copy and paste the daily in from the win 2000 hard drive.
It seems overall, that the program takes all the memory while not really impacting cpu usage.
I also find I do get th definitons via HTTP as the DNS does give the same error you experience

You get the definitions via HTTP on the win2000 machine? How? with Clawin update or other service/browser? I tried wget for windows in the win2000 pc but the Clamav server denied my request.
Thanks and regards.

Yes Mitsu the latest version will pull in the new definitions when it does the update.
Also, thought right clicking on the right hand tray icon and selecting update virus definitions.
As for the Http, it rolls over to that when the DNS fails.
If you go theclam av website then they changed their security so I have found with some web browsers I can not get in, but I am fine with the clamwin website and for my 98 box, I download the daily virus definition to a usb and then copy it into that box.
