Latest version downloaded & dbase update still not worki

Hi,

I have been using Clamwin for many years but like others earlier this year the daily virus database update started to fail reporting an error message every day. I saw today that a new version of clamwin had been released promising that the virus update problem was fixed. I downloaded the latest version but when I try to update the virus database it says my version is 78 versions behind and tries to download a patch but fails with the following error:

(I am not techy at all so any explanation will need to be very simple!)

The updates work fine on my Win 10 computer since I installed the latest ClamWin version (0.103.2). You might try a recent suggestion: delete everything in the ClamWin DB folder (C:\ProgramData\.clamwin\db) and then do a manual update. Before you do that, however, backup up the files in the ClamWin DB folder somewhere just in case you need them.

I think this will solve your problem. Let us know how it goes.

Hi,

I have a similar problem - I can't get the latest update.

I have upgraded to latest version (ClamAV 0.103.2), still no DB update, remove the latest version, clean the registry with CCleaner, reinstal the latest ClamWin agin.

The folder (C:\ProgramData\.clamwin\db) is empty.

My log:

As I can see - I have "Unexpected response (429)", while the OP has "Unexpected response (403)".
By searching, I see that the "429" error generaly mean "too many requests". I suppose that I should take a brak for some time before I try again - I would appreciate if someone could tell me how long should I wait before another try?

I suggest you wait a couple of hours. You might also make sure your update preferences is set to allow updates and that the update site is database.clamav.net on the web.

On my Windows 7 at 64Bits the update of database it works.
When i setuped ClamWin i did a clean install of it.
I attach the log file to the update.

While waiting, I made a copy from my wife's PC (C:\ProgramData\.clamwin\db), and copied it to my PC.
It was reckognised instantly.
Today I tried to download db update, and I got no errors.

I installed the new version of Clamwin, 0.103.2, after completely removing the previous version from my computer. It ran all night long, supposedly downloading the database but when I got ready to scan, it said that it hadn't been downloaded. I just removed it and installed 0.99.4. I am waiting for it to download the main database. It has some problems too such as hanging up in the system when I stop all running tasks. It also takes some extra resources from my system. I am not really happy with it but I've tried other anti-virus programs and they were even worse. I have NoVirusThanks from OSArmor as the front firewall. It seems to work o.k. The biggest firewall is Qustodio. You want the free version. It's good for one computer. It blocks and filters out most of the problems. You have to set it up properly and put every search engine in it that you want blocked. Does anyone know of a better and simple anti-virus program that really works?[/b]

Another firewall or maybe NVT OS Armor might be responsible for some problem(s). Disable them one at a time and see if that helps/

The ClamWin database can become corrupted over time. Follow the instructions mentioned to delete the old DB (after backing it up) and downloading a new DB.

Windows Defender is probably the easies/simplest AV to use for the money. It is free. Make sure you configure it properly for your apps. I exclude ClamWin's .exe files and the quarantine folder. I set it up for real-time scanning, cloud protection, auto submission, and tamper protection, but I do not like to use Controlled Folder Access. Controlled folder access seems to "hit" some apps at times, so you will have to exclude them when this happens.
