I get an error myself when posting to the forum sometimes because some words/expressions I have used are similar to spam or if I try to make a long post.

Yesterday I noticed there is a bunch of junk files/folders in my ClamWin database. If you have junk, delete it and see if that helps. If that doesn't help, delete the files in the database and see if you can update manually (first save the daily, main, bytecode, and mirror files somewhere else just in case). Some file(s) may bcome corrupted--it happens.

Finally, uninstall ClamWin and then reinstall it as a last resort.

Howdy Bob, I have uninstalled and reinstalled clam a couple of times. I have not tried manually deleting any left over files after uninstalling. That just occurred to me as a result of your mention of junk files and corrupt files. I am able to manually update from the dl site, but I am never sure if clam is working correctly when i have to do that because if part of it's broken then how do i know it's not completely compromised. That's my line of thinking. I'll try a full and complete uninstall/reinstall and see what happens.

I prepared virus signatures for Clam AV (the scan engine used by ClamWin) for 5 years. Their code is pretty secure and so are their virus signatures--probably more secure than the commercial AVs because not as many people are involved with it. The source code is free and open and is highly visible to experienced users. I am fairly certain they are not compromised. They can have the same problem as the commercial AVs have with bugs, however, but anything major can be quickly addressed. One drawback: due to limited resources, there are not as many virus signatures prepared for Clam AV as there are for the commercial AVs.

The ClamWin developers port the Clam AV source code over to Windows, and the resulting Windows AV is tested for about 6 weeks before each release of ClamWin. ClamWin downloads the virus signatures direct from Clam AV. You mentioned Clam, but I'm pretty sure that you are talking about ClamWin.
