Clamscan.exe and MailEnable

Hello,

I have setup two servers to run MailEnable as an Email Gateway, using Clamscan.exe to scan the incoming emails.
Windows 2003 Server
System one is a dual PIII 1GHz with 2GB memory
System two is a P4 2.4Ghz with 1GB memory.

So this issue may not come as new to most of ya'll....
But man, clamscan.exe is killing my servers.....they are just pegging the CPU, by starting multiple processes.
I had Win2K with Symantec Antivirus for Gateways on these same boxes and never had this kind of load.

Is there anyway that clamscan can be loaded into memory, as a way to allow for faster scanning and less of a load?
Or is there some config change I need to make to lessen the load?

Thanks,

not until V1 is released early next year. In the meanwhile you may look at clamav-win32 and clamd/clamdscan combination.

I'm just wondering: would there be any difference in resource demand if you ran ClamWin Portable off of a USB? This may not even be feasable in your server application though.

Also, aren't there some old programs around that will let you set up a ramdisk and run stuff in that?

Regards,

Using a USB device would not be an option in this case.

There might be, I have not explored that option.....
The best option would be to have clamscan stay resident in memory so it wasn't reloading the AV DB every time an email came into MailEnable

Are these programs the same as ClamWin/Clamscan?
Just for Unix?

Also
Once the file is downloaded and extracted, what are the setup procedures for getting the clam daemon running?

Ok

I have gotten clamd and clamdscan running/working with MailEnable (I think).
My clamdscan log file shows emails being scanned and passed with OK
But if I send an EICAR test it goes on through to the account....not stopped and no error in the log file.

The test button inside MailEnable for the AV program returns a '1' for the code.

So am I doing something wrong?
