Sure, Clam has had two updates today (Saturday January 30th). They have several daily updates during the week. You can verify the update site by looking at Configure, Internet Updates from the ClamWin icon in the Windows system tray. Make sure that is where you are trying to update from.
If the update site is okay, you might try deleting the main and daily files in your ClamWin database directory and try another update. The location of the database files can be found in the Virus Database Folder in Configure, File Localtions from the ClamWin icon in the Windows system tray. You might want to Copy the two files somewhere before you delete them--just in case it doesn't update, so you can put them back. Are you able to visit other security sites on the web? Do you use another antivirus program--does it run/update okay? Regards, |

For some reason I can't connect to you update website. I can connect to a lot of other sites. Any ideas here?? I tried lowering security to zero, no help. Does your site need any particular services running to funcion? I know some sites need RPC running in order to have some parts of their site to work properly.

I see that you do not have an IP address for update. The default location I have under Internet Updates is database.clamav.net so make sure that is what you have also.
Have you changed anything on your computer lately? Maybe you have a new firewall that you need to make an exception for ClamWin with. Are you using ClamWin in some sort of network? If so, has the configuration changed lately? You might check your Hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\Hosts) (no extension) to see if, for some reason, Clam's update Win has been reset to your local machine (127.0.0.1). You can view the Hosts file with Notepad. I do not know the IP number, but you may find it in some posts here in the forum. Normally you will not have anything in the Hosts file but the local machine designation. If this doesn't help, perhaps Alch/Sherpya can chime in. Regards, |

This problem has been there since I installed clamav. The database.clamav.net is set in the config update. No changes have been made.
I looked up the ip for clamav.net and used it in the HOST folder with database.clamav.net, still have the problem. Althought it says it is downloading but it times out. I turned the fire wall off to check this it didn't help. |

I had the same problem but found a solution buried in the FAQ sheet somewhere after 2 days of searching.
So I went to a whosis lookup site https://cqcounter.com/whois/ and entered in "database.clamav.net" and got a lookup response for clamav.net. The ip address was 194.109.142.194. The same look up site gave the following DNS server addresses, therefore in an ideal world clamwin users shouldn't be having the problems we are currently experiencing. NS3.CLAMAV.NET 195.70.36.141 NS4.CLAMAV.NET 209.9.232.3 NS5.CLAMAV.NET 213.92.8.2 NS6.CLAMAV.NET 208.201.249.238 NS7.CLAMAV.NET 209.204.159.15 So I used Notepad to open the "hosts" file on my PC, located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc. I inserted the following line: 194.109.142.194 database.clamav.net and saved the file. I was then able to update my clamwin database. The motto of all the previous frustration appears to be, to lookup the current ip address of database.clamav.net and add them both to your "hosts" file. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I downloaded Clamwin last autumn and am not sure that the database revision downloads were ever successful. I was away from this computer the first three months of 2010. Last night a notice popped up on the monitor about a new version so I downloaded it. The report I got when I tried to do a database revision seemed like even more of a failure than what I remembered from last autumn.
I found this thread, found the Hosts folder, which in Windows 98 is just in C:/Windows, not in the System 32 subfolder, and copied and pasted the line from redmist's post. I'm afraid that didn't change anything. So this morning I uninstalled and re-downloaded Clamwin. Get the same futility: ClamAV update process started at Wed Apr 14 17:27:41 2010 ERROR: DNS Resolver: Cannot find a dns server WARNING: Invalid DNS reply. Falling back to HTTP mode. Your main database is up-to-date. The problem appears to be with the daily database, which was update about a month or so ago. Try the update a few more times--with maybe 30 minutes or so between tries to see if you can get the daily updates.
Do you have problems accessing the web with any other programs? There are some recent posts in the ClamWin forums about changing the Hosts file. Do some searching here on the forums and see if that can help you. Regards, |

Thanks.
No problem accessing the Web with any other program. Do I accomplish the same thing by going to https://www.clamwin.com/content/view/58/27/, clicking on https://database.clamav.net/daily.cvd, and downloading to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\.clamwin\db\daily ? (Actually, its equivalent in Windows Ninety-Eight) Thanks again, |

I was having trouble like everyone else and thanks to GuitarBob and Red Mist I got the update working fine. I tried updating the HOST file but the IP address I used didn't work. The second time I used 194.109.142.194 database.clamav.net and the update process worked fine. The path to the HOST file is C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOST you can open this file with notepad and just add the line 194.109.142.194 database.clamav.net
