I'm getting this error each time I try to open an email containing an attachment:

An Error occurred whilst scanning: scanFile: No database loaded

The problem started when I downloaded and installed version 0.96.0 and persists when I downloaded and installed 0.96.0.1 this morning.

Running Vista using outlook 2003

Delete the contents of c:\users\all users\.clamwin\db folder and download virus database update from clamwin tray icon

The error should disappear. If not try a manual scan and post your results

I am having the same problem. I'm using Vista and Office 2007. My users folder doesn't have an "all users" folder. What can I do to eliminate this error?

Thanks.

My ClamWin DB files are located at: C:\ProgramData\.clamwin\db on my Vista computer.

I deleted the database files and downloaded new ones but am still having the same problem. Could there be something else wrong? The error comes up whenever I open or send an email with an attachment.

As I understand it, ClamWin only works with the Outlook email program. I have never used it with email, but you may have to configure it to work with Outlook. If this applies to you, check your configuration. There is a new file in the signature database now--bytecode.cld (and maybe later an icon database), which may be screwing things up.

If you are using ClamWin with something besides Outlook, you might check with the email provider, although they may not have figured out ClamWin version .96 yet.

HI there,

This looks like a problem on all Outlook versions 2007 onwards. I have had to turn off Email scanning on all of my companies machines right now.

Oh dear!

Does anyone know if this is on the current radar to get fixed?

Thanks

Matt

Outlook version has nothing to do with it. The patched signatures (.cld) became incompatible from 0.95.2 to 0.96.0.1
Our installer takes care of it by removing old database files. However it looks like it failed to do that in your case. One reason could be if you installed for "me only" and then reinstalled for "all users"

In any case to fix that search for *.cld in windows explorer and delete all found.

Hi to all,

I reloaded the database but still got the same error.

The is a difference between the db files I downloaded yesterday and those I downloaded today: I have a file daily.clv in the previously downloaded db directory, and a file daily..cvd in the new db directory.

I reinstalled the previously downloaded db and deleted the .clv file (daily.clv). I do not receive the error anymore.

BUT: each time I open Clamwin from its icon, I get a message saying I have not yet downloaded the database and asking if I want to do it.
The file location specified for the virus database in the FILE LOCATION tab of the Clamwin interface exists and contains the previous download without the daily.cld file.

QUESTIONS:
- did the delete of the .clv file disable the check of my mails in Outlook?
- why do I get the message asking to dwnload the database?
- what about the future updates to the database?

Thank you to the one(s) who could give me an answer.

The daily.cvd file has been added to the db directory when I scanned my c drive and I get the error message again!

Email Scanners:

If you use Clam Sentinel with Clamwin, Clam Sentinel will scan any file that is added, modified, or copied to a folder. Thus you do not have to scan your outlook email folder with Clamwin--Clam Sentinel will do a heuristic scan and then do a scan with ClamWin if the heuristics do not find anything. This is not a permanent fix, of course, but this might allow you to turn off Outlook scanning and still scan email until there is a permanent fix for ClamWin.

Clam Sentinel can be a bit aggressive sometimes, but if you justuse ClamWin to scan email, you can whitelist all other folders in Clam Sentinel.

Hope this helps.
