ClamWin doesn't support the mainstream opensource mail client (Thunderbird or Seamonkey suite). What about a plugin?

I suggest to download and install other clam mail antivir avaible on:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=125389. https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=125389.
I'm using it with ClamWin and it's quite enough to protect windows.

yes you can, just tell clamwin to use the database files form the clammail directory. It is configurable in clamwin preferences-file locations tab

Chance of corrupting the mail files of Thunderbird?

When I used Outlook Express I was told that scanning email with an antivirus would eventually corrupt the mail files. Is this true with ClamWin and Thunderbird? My email protection is done by ZoneAlarm which changes the extension of any executable so that it cannot run. It does not corrupt Outlook Express files. I assumed that it wouldn't corrupt Thundebird files. Will scanning email files with ClamWin or any antivirus corrupt Thunderbird files?

When encountering the symptoms of DBX corruption, many people immediately fear that their computer is infected with a virus. As surprising and ironic as it may seem though, the most common cause of DBX corruption is not a virus, but rather anti-virus programs that are configured to scan incoming or outgoing e-mail. Even the most well-known anti-virus programs have exhibited this problem from time to time. To lessen the risk of such corruption you should disable the e-mail scanning module in your anti-virus program.

I like the idea of downloading neutered executables to my download folder then scanning them with ClamWin, then running the executable in my sandbox / virtual machine to observe its affect. Even the best antivirus depends on signatures. Might one get a virus an hour before the relevant signature?

I like ClamWin without an email scanner and without real-time. That was one of the reasons that I chose it. Prevx1 does my real-time protection, with ewido anti-spyware doing real-time in the spyware and Trojan niche. TWo layers with ClamWin and Prevx1, one signature and one behavioral with community database aid.
I have the extension ClamWin Antivirus Glue for Firefox for scanning downloads. Aren't signatures, behavioral, and virtual rendition the way to protect against the known and unknown? Is the article at the url above correct?

Does scanning emails adversely affect Thunderbird files? You may scan the attachments after downloading. If you have ZoneAlarm (except for the free) all the executables (I add JPG and JPEG to the list) are neutered.[/quote]

don't use bold pls, thunderbird has his own mailbox format that is the standard unix mailbox, so you cannot remove virus from mailbox without screwing it
by default clamwin doesn't touch thunderbird mailboxes but only reports the virus

outlook use a proprietary format to store email and using directly a module to handle attachment should be harmfull, unless (as always Razz) outlook has bugs and screws his mailbox.

no it is not forbidden but it should be used sparingly to emphasize certain parts of your post only.
