Most of you didn't noticed it, but there is an experimental incremental updater from 0.88.4 to 0.88.5,
it can be downloaded from here:
https://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/clamwin/cwupdater-884to885.exe https://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/clamwin/cwupdater-884to885.exe
Currently it's experimental but it worked for me on some installations.
Feedbacks are welcomed

Hi Sherpya,
I just tested the incremental installer on Win98SE (NL) and Win2003 (UK). It seems to work fine.
Here are the only comments i can think of :
1. When ClamWin is not installed, the incremental installer says :
Cannot find ClamWin Installation, aborting...
ClamWin Upgraded to
Completed |
The second line should not show.
2. On the Win98SE PC I had a beta version installed (0.88.4.6). The installer didn't work there (that is: it did not completely upgrade to 0.88.5). After installing 0.88.4 cleanly it worked just fine. Is there some specific reason for this (maybe you should check for versions between x and y, not just equal to x) ?
Great work!

I used the incremental installer on my Win 98 SE machine, and it seems to be working just fine.
Thanks

@budtse
I can fix messages
the upgrader only works from 0.88.4 to 0.88.5 I could add also other versions but this will make me difficult
to make the patch and the patch itself will become bigger

Well, you told us that it is experimental. What's most important is that it works on future versions--eh?

Just upgraded a Windows 2000 installation, no problems there.
Thanks for removing the message (it was just a detail, but i had to make some comment, didn't i ? ).
You're right about upgrading from 1 version to the next, it does make sense to me now.
One other problem I noticed is that the uninstall program will not remove files added by a differential installer. Maybe we need to put in a command to unconditionally delete the clamwin folder after uninstall. Of course, this is rather tricky, but it would allow a full cleanup.

I've noticed that many Windows programs don't completely remove all their files/folders, and I've got into the habit of checking my hard drive after any uninstall. Don't spoil us users--especially if it will require a lot of your time!!

That will be fixed in the next release

@GuitarBob
the 0.88.4 installer doesn't known about 2 new files added, since I cannot patch the uninstall data, it will not uninstall these two files,
as alch said he fixed it in the installer in next release (alch 0.88.5 already has this?), but you cannot benefits of this fix until you have installed
clamwin with the new fixed installer.

no 0.88/5 had to be rushed out because of the outdated warning.
0.88.6 will do a proper cleanup

That's great. I hate programs that leave junk, since i constantly install and remove all kinds of programs. Didn't have any doubt it wouldn't be fixed soon.
Now I really don't have any more comments
Thanks for the great work

I wish the commercial softare developers would take their junk with them when you uninstall one of their programs. They all seem to leave something behind--at least an empty folder.
Alch: do you need to coordinate more with the ClamAV team--to minimize that "rush" work? Perhaps they could notify you in advance when they will issue an update, and you can avoid the rush.
Thanks to all you ClamWin guys.
