I was wondering can I just take the freshclam.exe from that 103.2 and swap it out on my windows 98 computer.
Also since calmwin is shall we say suspended, can I download that 103.2portable.zip and use that? https://www.clamav.net/downloads at this address looking under win 32? The one under windows anti virus is tied to immunet which works on win 7 and greater I know I can download the CVD main and daily ; however, windows 98 does nto seem to like that format as it calls it a malformed database so I assume it needs the CLD Alternate Versions of ClamAV Various third parties have developed versions of ClamAV to work on a variety of operating systems. Several of these are listed below. Installation instructions for many operating systems can be found in the documentation. Windows Packages Win32 Win64 Windows Antivirus |

The ClamWin developer has announced that they are working on a new version that will enable signature updates. He expects to release it the first week in May (that's next week). See the note about the new version at the top of the main ClamWin web page.

On the windows 7 machine I have updated the clam
It closed the old one and then installed the new one, ending with an error message of The procedure point ASN1_STRING_get0_data could not be located in the dynamic link library. After clicking okay and rebooting, I went o do a virus defintion update and yes the daily did update. and it seems to be playing nicely with the Immunet - funny it is called cloud based yet it downloads in the original clam gobbly gook named folder sa sub folder with an LDB. I also tried to send an a thank you to them through the clam win contat bpage but it was forbidden link |

Yes indeed I have been using clam sentinel but just close it before the upgrade as it quarantined a couple of files on my windows 2000 computer

I wouldn't use Clam Sentinel any more. It is more of an orphan than ClamWin. BTW, did you look on the main ClamWin web page? There is a new updated version available.

Hello my friend GuitarBob
I did see the notification plus I got the pop up on my windows 7, 98/2000 boxes. I got such a variety of screens when I installed it. Closed Sentienel and the update closed the older vlam On windows 7 I got The procedure point ASN1_STRING_get0_data could not be located in the dynamic link library. After reboot I was able to then get the definition updates which left everything as a CVD except the byte code. On windows 2000 - It showed about 25 patched with sequential numbers. After reboot was able to get the definitions and it did put the daily in as a CLD. On the windows 98 I got The LIBFRESHCLAM.DLL is linked to missing export LIBCLAMDLL: ASN1_STRING_get0_data Then it also said (I forgot if after a reboot or before) a required DLL Libclamavdll not found. I rebooted and nothing in clam would open up so I re-clicked the exe file to install again and this time it went through and even started the virus definition updates. They never came down and it wiped out the "main" one. Nothing actually was installed other than the blank gobbly gook folder. Maybe I should install the old verssion and copy & paste form win 2000 since for the moment it gave me a CLD file so it should be read without calling it malformed database As a side note my windows 98/2000 (each os on a different HD of a pentium 3) the clam scan goes on forever taking up to 600,000 of the memory even though system idle is pretty good. Not as horrible on windows 98. On windows 7 when I went to do a scan it still takes all day. Today I see the daily is a cld, and the temp gobbly cook folders are in my user profile rather than the db folder except for on win 98 |

That's a lot of stuff! I suggest you uninstall ClamWin on each hard drive and then install the current version .103.2 and see if that works.
As I mentioned, I would not use Clam Sentinel any more. Regards, |

LOL GuitarBob
That is exactly what i did for the win 98 - I deleted all mentions of clam and clam sentinel even in the registry. Then reinstalled the new clam version, after an hour of waiting for it to do an update nothing happened so I copied & pasted the db stuff from the win 2000 hard drive. Then I tried to scan the win 98 and after 2 hours of it trying to load the database it did. No issues with win 2000 or windows 7 with a mere over install. It is funny however how different the screens gave different information. Also it is funny to see what calm sentinel and Immunet on win 7 considered altered or blocked. On win 7 I did the sentinel memory scan and that still works. One time I did a scan with older AV and it picked up things the current stuff did not on one of my computers-hahahaha And as I mentioned on all but 98, the clam gobbly gook folders are no longer in DB folder but rather in c users app date local. For Immunet, I wonder how they can say nothing is downloaded rather cloud based when I see a ton of LDB files in sub gobbly gook folders. yesterday I deleted that out and claimed 1 gig of space--hopefully that did not reduce its efficiency. Yesterday it howed that it had commented almost 3 thousand files were succesffuly downloaded--tis amazing. |

Clam Sentinel was originally written for Win 98--the developer initially used it on his personal computer after the AV companies dropped support for their AVs on Win 98. There were also lots of Win 98 computers still in use when ClamWin was developed--in fact use on a few Win 98 machines is one of the reasons the ClamWin developer still supports it--he tests ClamWin release candidates on a Win 98 virtual machine. It is getting hard to support Win 98 though--and to even pass through a few of the Clam AV improvements to the ClamWin Windows port of Clam AV.
If things get too bad for you, I suggest you drop Clam Sentinel/ClamWin. Regards, |

True 98 is the forgotten child now- I found clam originally when Avast stopped working on 98 and even now on XP - brought XP to a standstill on two machines and on 98 many years ago it said there was hard drive failure at boot when there was none. Clam always worked great and the sentinel still works-- fun to see what clam versus sentinel, versus this immuent pop up on their notify boxes--all are very different. Clam now loading the definitions on all machines is taking hours probably just for the sheer size, but all is working. On 98 I had to reinstall the sentiel 3 times, for the other two OS I just disabled it for the clam install. On 98 I had uninstalled everything clam related even from the registry. Today will let the virus update definition run for a few hours on 98 and see if it kicks in--it does it timely on win 7 and 2000. Although I can't navigate the internet on the older two OS I do access thunderbird for my office 365 email so I still want to have protection.
By the way, I keep things running as long as I can : - ) Looking into panda-- says it is okay for xp and greater and the gal on the phone said 200 and greater but I am unsure. I ran the free panda cleaner ajnd it said to call the number to actually clean the registry items--not calling, technically if I wanted I guess I could have deleted them out such as you can when you get that with the free avast I like the sensitivity clam provides more than any other programs. I am just amazed at how the clam uses up all the memory and nothing of cpu - that has been for a few years to the point I thought something was wrong with the computer as it was groaning away |
