I think my next computer will have a Linux OS. That way I can use Clam AV, and even though it doesn't have enough signatures and practically no heuristics, it can scan in real-time and I won't really have to worry about all the Windows malware.

I don't know if you could use Yara on Win 98 (probably not), but you might want to look into it. It's mostly used by IT security analysts/researchers, but you can use it yourself with some effort. It's not a complete AV system, but you can prepare your own signatures for malware from which you want to protect yourself. There are free Yara signatures available. A good starting place is https://medium.com/bugbountywriteup/intro-to-malware-detection-using-yara-eacab8373cf4 on the web.

Hello,

I foud solution for this error Smile

download clamav-0.99.1-win32.zip and ClamAV-0.96.5-win32.zip

from clamav-0.99.1-win32.zip copy following files to clamwin\bin folder

freshclam.exe (replace old file)
libeay32.dll
ssleay32.dll
and from ClamAV-0.96.5-win32.zip copy following files to clamwin\bin folder
msvcp100.dll
msvcr100.dll

then download hex editor https://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php?product=HxD20 use him for
open freshclam.exe in clamwin\bin folder
Find string libclamav.dll and change one letter on some like libclamXv.dll (new library is not compatybile with clamwin and this force freshclam.exe to use new name library )

then from clamav-0.99.1-win32.zip copy libclamav.dll to clamwin\bin folder with new name libclamXv.dll (same like in modded freshclam.exe)

now you can check it

run Command shell in clamwin\bin folder
then type
freshclam --datadir="C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\.clamwin\db" --config-file="C:\Program Files\ClamWin\bin\freshclam.conf"

Viola! Now you can use old engine for check files and new engine for get updates

I use it with Windows Home server (it base on windows 2003). I don't need other software becouse i dont need continus scannig. I need scan only on request. I checked it with windows XP with SP3

Regards

Thank you for the fix. It may be too much trouble for some ClamWin Windows users, however. I fear that the developers have lost interest in ClamWin.

There's no way to add an attachment here. You can put the information in a post, but do not make it too long. You could put it online somewhere and insert the location here--it will not be linked, but we can copy/paste it.
