Windows 7 notification pop-up saying ClamAV couldn't update virus definitions, logs say I need to update to ClamWin app version 0.101.0, but going to https://www.clamwin.com/ says the latest version is 0.99.4 Released...

Is a virus doing this? I'm not sure if I should go to the link it provides - https://www.clamav.net/documents/upgrading-clamav

That warning is for Clam Av Linux users only. ClamWin uses the scan engine/virus database provided by the Clam AV project. The ClamWin developers have not yet ported the last couple of Clam AV scan engine databases to ClamWin. Just ignore it. However, make sure your ClamWin internet updates is set to automatic, and the frequency set to hourly, to start at the time you want (maybe 8 AM?). Also make sure the Infected File option under General Preferences is set to Quarantine and ClamWin is set to Unload Infected Files from memory.

Let us know of any problems. Make sure you use a real-time AV along with ClamWin to catch viruses before the are activated. ClamWin only scans "on demand" as scheduled/manually.

Hmm, seems like a bug that it warns me that a program I don't have is out of date... I imagine it's easy for the ClamWin developers to know what system the program is installed on and should not be comparing the Windows version with the Linux version, but instead should be checking if the installed Windows version is out of date.

Also, not sure you addressed the 2nd error:

WARNING: getpatch: Can't download daily-25195.cdiff from database.clamav.net
WARNING: getpatch: Can't download daily-25195.cdiff from database.clamav.net

It's trying to download an update from database.clamav.net and failed...

The Clam Av mirrors frequently do not update the virus database. I've given up worrying about it. I just let it update automatically when it can. Sometimes you can do a manual update after 20 minutes or so when you have missed a scheduled update. This shouldn't be too much of a problem if you are just using ClamWin as a backup scanner to a real-time Av.

database.clamav.net is a mirror? That seems like the main one...

Also why is it comparing my Windows version of ClamWin to the Linux version of ClamAV? Again, that seems like a bug that should be fixed.

This is the first time I've seen these errors in years of usage.

That is how you access the Clam Av mirrors.

There is no comparison of OS versions--they assume all users are on Clam AV (Linux).

I have been using ClamWin since July 2006, and as far as I can recall, the version warning has always been visible when ClamWin is behind Clam Av in its version.

I am sure that the ClamWin developers will appreciate it if you come up with a patch for this!

OK... so the bug there was that it couldn't access the mirrors.

OK, so the bug there is that ClamWin is showing an irrelevant unnecessary error message because the Linux and Windows latest version numbers went out of sync. I think like any bug causing an unnecessary error notification for the user, that bug should be fixed so as not to cause the user to think there's a problem and spend their time trying to figure it out or take inappropriate or detrimental actions.

Great, this is still the first time I've seen it over hundreds of scan reports that I've looked at. A bug being old doesn't mean it shouldn't be fixed.

I don't code apps like ClamWin. I've asked about the bug here. If you know the developers, please ask them to fix this. I'm sure you understand why.
