Hello !

I am looking for techincal details about how the whole suite operates
and which processes are involved.

My scheduled updates are failing all the time. On my computer
is McAfee Shiled installed and so, applications cannot go into
the internet, not even port 80 - that good.

I excluded: clamscan.exe, clamtray.exe, clamwin.exe,
but this does not help. If I disable McAfee and go into
the menu to update, it works.

So, it's a problem of missing documentation.

Any help would be great !

Best regards,

++mabra

ClamWin updates with the program freshclam.exe from the ClamWin bin directory. I do not know the port used, but it is probably port 80.

The ClamWin Help manual can be accessed from the Help option available from the ClamWin user menu. A search of the posts on these ClamWin forums can sometimes be helpful, as can a search on the world wide web.

Thank you for using ClamWin.

Hi !

Many thanks, this helped a lot. After I allow "freshclam.exe" to use
http communication, the database is automatically updated!

Best regards,

Good! Make sure you have the ClamWin internet update preference set to hourly to get automatic updates.

ClamWin is only an on-demand scanner, so it does not scan in real-time as files are placed on your computer. If you are not also using a real-time scanner, take a look at the Clam Sentinel add-on. It lets you use ClamWin as a real-time scanner and also has its own heuristic scanner to detect viruses for which ClamWin does not have a signature. Clam Sentinel is a free, open source project just like ClamWin, but it is a separate project. The Clam Sentinel site is at https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web.
