That's a good idea, R&RK! I have often wished that I could "stitch" some scans together to come up with a ClamWin Quick Scan, and you can do this if you are good with scripting, but something like this should be included in the ClamWin scan code. Most AVs will either have a quick scan or will give you the ability to do a custom scan. I like to scan memory, %appdata% and System 32--these are the places where the majority of malwre that I have seen initially tries to embed--80% to 90% in my experience. You don't really need to scan every file in every folder--most of that scan would be wasted. Also, most malware (80% to 90% in my experience) will be found using only 20 to 30 common file extensions, so you can use a custom set of extensions to scan, and it will speed up your scans a bit.
I understand that work is progressing on ClamWin version 1.0 (no idea when it will be ready though). I hope the developers include a quick scan option. Keep those suggestions coming! An AV is ultimately only as good as its users. Regards, |
