Hi,
we can commit that 0.97.7 and 0.97.8 are not able to update on several servers. (Server 2008 and 2003!)
See: https://lurker.clamav.net/message/20130506.090654.ce9c7cb6.nl.html

Any ideas why this happens?

Possibilities: DNS problem, hosts file, VPN preventing update?

Hi,
thanks for your answer.
No there are no DNS or any other problems.
Using the browser for downloading works fine on those servers.
The problem can also be resolved by reverting clamwin to version 0.97.6.
So this is an issue of clamwin/freshclam for sure.

Greetings,

Harald

Hello Harald, have you tried:

(a) running freshclam 0.97.7/0.97.8 through the CLI? (note: I don’t expect it helps)
(b) testing the windows builds for ClamAV 0.97.7/0.97.8? (I do not mean Immunet)

That is just my two cents ;-)

Hi,
I tried running freshclam.exe from ClamWin using a batch file:
Code:
freshclam.exe --verbose --config-file=freshclam.conf --log=Update.log --datadir="C:\TestClamAV"

What do you mean with through the CLI?[/quote]

I mean something like that. But testing the official windows builds for ClamAV would be more contributive:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamav/files/clamav/win32/ (you will find both x86 and x64 msi files there)

Well, that may be the official build for Clam AV for Windows, but ClamWin adds a GUI to it plus code that is specific for Windows legacy versions, so I think ClamWin would have the "official" version for ClamWin.

That is not the question, GuitarBob. By « official » I meant « "official" ». Is that OK now?
The real question is: there is a problem with updates on some systems. OK but where?

Yes, the lack of update is the problem, and it seems to be on some of the lesser-used versions of Windows. I've referenced this thread to the ClamWin developers.

I suspect is the ipv6 aware code that breaks also ipv4 on some windows, I'm thinking to switch it off, I don't see any advantage at the moment

It seems freshclam supports IPv6 since v0.94. Did this portion of code change between 97.6 and 97.7?
However, thank you for the prompt reply and the work on the "unofficial" native win32 port of ClamAV!

Regards,

I would not say windows server 2008 R2 is a lesser used system.
I guess it's the currently most used windows server system.
But I need to admit that the problem does not occur an all 2008R2 systems.

Sorry about that "lesser used". Guess I'm identifying myself as a simple, stand-alone user!

Do the servers that do not update use IPV4 or IPV6?

This is the exact issue I'm still having on my Vista x64 Home Premium box. I'm using IPv4 on it.

I know rolling back to 0.97.6 is an option, but I'd rather not deal with the nagging...really hoping for a proper fix.

I think it will be some time before a fix. The ClamWin developers normally do not release program updates until there is a new version of Clam AV to port over to Windows. They do make exceptions--such as when they developed the Quarantine Browser to restore all operating system false positive detections a couple of years ago. I'm not sure, but I don't think a new version of Clam AV will be available until the fall.
