When I scan program files, the scan stalls on the turbotax help file taxhelp.xml. The progress indicator stops and it will not proceed. It is not locked - I can click stop. I tried excluding taxhelp.xml in the filters but is then stalled at the 100% status of the prior file in the folder. Any ideas?

You might try excluding the entire directory listing--like C:\Turbotax\turbotaxhelp.xml. I have not seen very much malware in XML files. Just to be sure, upload the file to Jotti or Virus Total. They have a limit on file size, however. If the file is real large, ClamWin may chew on it for a while. I have almost given up on large files a few times, but it has always finished.

Thanks for a quick reply. I was wrong about the file causing the problem. It was the next file to be processed after taxhelp. This was also an xml file onlu 1.5 MB I can filter it and the scan completes. Is there some way to get this looked into (for other people) so that the problem can be fixed or at least known?

The scanning engine used by ClamWin comes from the Clam AV project (for Linux), so there could be a bug in the Clam AV code. The ClamWin developers basically just port the Linux code over to the Windows operating system. I think the thing to do is to send the troublesome file to the ClamWin developers who will know what to do--probably send it to Clam AV. You can contact the ClamWin developers on the ClamWin web site via the Contact Us link. Describe what happened for them in your email and attach the file if you can. If you can't attach it, they will tell you what to do.
