Problem With Updates On Win 98 After New ClamWin Install

There is a problem on Win 98 machines with signature updates after installing a new version of ClamWin. To prevent this, before installing the new version, copy/save your configuration file (ClamWin.conf) somewhere. After installing the new ClamWin version, copy replace the new ClamWin.conf file with the old one that you saved.

It might be useless (I did not try), but then, I would fix this line :

Code:
[UI]
version = 0.97.7

However, applying the patch seems to prevent the problem too.

Update failed. Your network may be down or none of the mirrors listed in c:\windows\temp\tmpzgptcd is working. Check https://www.clamav.net/support/mirror-problem for possible reasons.

Ahh... .97.7 final was released April 9. Something must have changed between .97.7 RC1 and .97.7 final.

I noticed two weeks ago that some mirrors may have serious problems—and the round robin record may have some trouble too.
Everything is okay with ClamWin 0.97.7!

Code:
[ClamAV]
freshclamparams = LogVerbose yes

Have you tried this? It might be interesting... You may also choose a good database mirror: https://www.clamav.net/mirrors.html

Note that clamwin-0.97.7-RC1-setup-nodb.exe and clamwin-0.97.7-setup-nodb.exe are exactly the same size (10339423 B).
But check the SHA1 hashes to be sure!

Thanks tizef. You may be right, as a subsequent update went flawlessly.

Thanks for that. I don't want to make any changes right now, but would rather monitor the update situation for a while. I have bookmarked this thread to save your suggestion, though.

Not applicable in my case as I always do a full, fresh install. A number of versions ago there was an issue with Win 98 that was masked by an incremental or over the top update installation. The beast only raised it's ugly head with a fresh install, so that's what I've done from then on.

Clam has asked for volunteer mirrors on their web site--don't know what this means. They may not have enough mirrors now. You can always get the signature databases from the Clam web site. I've never done it, so I don't know how it works--download and install over or download and replace the existing signatures. Get the daily signatures, of course, and check the main signatures also in case they've made a recent change to it--doesn't happen very often.
