I assume they just forgot to update the website. You can always get the latest version at database.clamav.net/daily.cvd

That's right. I suggest you use that instead of the update link posted on the Clam AV web site. I'll notify them about this. Thanks for pointing that out.

Update: Clam says that the database files are current--the descriptions are just wrong.

I also noticed last week that some mirrors (as clamavdb.heanet.ie, in Europe) may provide that old daily.cvd (version 16903), depending on your location and/or update configuration. I do not know how/why but that is an actual fact.

The updates will still work for any reasonably current version of ClamWin. Version .97.7 consisted of security fixes passed through from the Clam AV code that will probably not concern the average ClamWin user. Malware would probably have to be specially crafted to take advantage of the security weaknesses, and Clam AV/ClamWin are not very high on the malware radar. To my knowledge, there was no change in detection capability.

Note that applying the update patch only takes a few (less than ten) seconds :

Hello,
I am using ClamWin version 0.97.2 on a Windows NT system. I download the updates from this link:
https://www.clamwin.com/content/view/58/
Occasionally, in the past six months or so, the file contents appear to be hijacked or infected.
When I normally attempt to download, it finishes in 30 seconds or so. Now however, it finishes in a second or two.
If I click on the actual link to see the code like I normally do, I now get sent to an apparent external link that resides on a foreign language site.
If I select F12 on my Windows 7 pc, I can inspect the code and I see that the one link in blue, "tiklayiniz" is a link to emeksensin.com.
It is doing it today, 4/9/2015.
I would appreciate any feedback or assistance.

Sounds strange. Are you using ClamWin with another real-time AV (you should be using a real-time AV along with ClamWin)? Anyway, I suggest that you download Malwarebytes free antimalware (MBAM). The free version is not real-time but, it comes with a 14 day trial of the premium version, which is real-time). Do a complete scan of your computer with MBAM--configure it for rootkit scanning also. If nothing is found/quarantined by MBAM, try to get into Windows safe mode (if you can), and do another full scan with MBAM. Then update ClamWin to the latest verson .98.6. Get back here if you need more help after all this.
Thanks for using ClamWin! By the way, only download ClamWin from the download link on the main ClamWin web page. I would not trust any other site! There are many web site that include adware/malware with their downloads, and this is probably what you have.
Regards,
|
