I'm installing 0.88.2.3 on two freshly formatted systems, one is using Win98SE while the other one is using Windows XP SP2. After installing I tried to download the virus definition files, and got mixed results. The WinXP SP2 machine can update with no problems, while the update window will just hang in the Win98SE machine. I'm sure this is not a proxy or firewall problem because both machines are joined to my office's Win2k domain, and no changes was done to the proxy server prior to the installation. Is there a fix for 0.88.2.3 for freshclam.exe just like for 0.88.1?

the update engine seems to stall.

whereas on the WinXP SP2 machine it's perfectly working.

It looks like there are problems with dns resolving and Wiondows ME just hangs...

You may download a cygwin build done by SOSDG and use freshclam form there.

1. Download and install ClamAV SOSDG Cygwin port :
https://www.sosdg.org/clamav-win32/
(don't use majorgeeks mirror as it points to clamwin instead)
2. In ClamWIn preferneces-File Locations configure a path to freshclam in SOSDG installation folder

freshclam works, the update carried out successfully, guess the reason is that the cygwin thing allows win98 to connect to the virus definition servers. but this port is a command-line based interface, no GUI?

you can have both sosdg clamav port and clamwin instaled, just configure clamwin to use freshclam.exe binary from sosdg port and all is well:
