Clam Sentinel Version 1.20 has been released. The new version features improved detection of suspicious files, an additional system monitor option to skip files with a valid digital signature, the ability to run Quarantine Recover from the quarantine menu in the system tray icon, and support for the Azeri language. The option to detect Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUA) has been discontinued due to excessive false positives from new Clam AV signatures.
Clam Sentinel is a free, open source program for Windows 98 thru Windows 7 that lets users scan in real-time with ClamWin as files are added, copied, or modified on their computer. Clam Sentinel also has a separate heuristic scan engine that detects malware without any ClamWin signature. Clam Sentinel is available for download at https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web. Clam Sentinel is a separate project from ClamWin, but ClamWin must be installed before Clam Sentinel. New users can read the Simple Guide included in the installation package--especially the Quick Guide To Clam Sentinel Configuration And Operation. You can get support, make bug reports, aand suggest improvements at https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web. If you find Clam Sentinel useful, please give the developer, Andrea Russo of Italy, a big "thank you" for his hard work. Delphi programmers can assist with thte future development of Clam Sentinel by contacting Andrea via the Clam Sentinel web site.

Yes, Clam Sentinel can detect worms that have a ClamWin signature, and it can also detect them via heuristics that meet a malware profile. All AVs have trouble detecting new malware for which they do not have a signature or if the malware looks like a "good" file. In those cases, they have to wait for someone to get infected and give them a sample.
Lots of malware is targeted toward specific users now, and it is changed very often. So there may not be many samples, and it takes an AV some time to prepare a signature when they get a sample. So malware has a big window of opportunity. That is why you need to keep your AV updated and be careful where you go on the web.
