Version .97.4 was tested very briefly on Win 98 by one of the developers, who has lots of other demands on his time. If you want support, I suggest you stay involved with beta testing. This version was available for about 2 weeks.

ClamWin is still supported, but we need some user help here!

Can you explain the problem(s) in more detail here?

Where did you get this wrong information from ? And did you try the "standalone" update installer ?
Since it seems you always have problems with upgrades, please let me ask you two last questions :

1. Are you running 98SE as a multi-user system ? (No works fine for me.)
2. Had KernelEx been installed on that machine ? (No works fine for me.)

Hi all who replied.
I am a single user and have not installed kernalEx.If you look at previous posts you will see that I have to do a new install as an update will not work.when the up date message came up I clicked on install more in hope than anger. As mentioned I was taken to the Clamwin web site. There was no win98se in the list of operating systems so did not follow it up and came here for advise.

As far as I know there is no problem other than the ancient one. Might be brave and do another clean install ,will read any replys before hand.

Regards pultney.

Try the KernelEx. It will not hurt anything (I think), and it should give you some more Win 98 capability. If that doesn't help, then try the clean install. If that doesn't work, then we can see what Andrea Russo (the Clam Sentinel developer (who is a Win 98 die-hard) says. I haven't heard him mention any problems with V.97.4

Hi pulteny, here is a screenshot of the actual official website :

As stated before, the standalone update installer worked fine for me.
(ClamWin, ClamTray and Clam Sentinel all shutted down – of course)

pulteny,

Head over to msfn.org > Board > 9x/ME Projects > Members 98 Projects. You'll find all you need to repair the issue.

Clamsentinel designer aru even places 98 patches for Clamwin there for download.

98 still works with Clamwin.

Guys, the only test of ClamWin version .97.4 was a brief test on one of the developer's computers.
I have to repeat: if you are using ClamWin on an older computer, do yourself (and others) a favor by signing up for beta testing. You can usually test on a standalone install and on the full installer. A decent test doesn't really take very long, and there is nothing as good as actual users testing on their own machines.

I would have signed up for weeks, if only I could find where to begin :–?

Thank you for your interest. Use the "Contact Us" link from the ClamWin main web page and tell them you would like to be a beta tester. Beta testing is not really very hard, and it will not take up very much time. Just make sure all the menu options/icons work for you, download the EICAR test file, restore EICAR from quarantine, do manual and scheduled updates and scans, and do a couple of installs.

HI the story continues.
As I followed up reply and installed"kernel Ex"noticed that Opera V10.3 no longer starts up with error message missing dll file
Thought I was on a run and when the update clamwin message came up I went for it.Shutdown sentinel and went for install It automatically shut down two components of clamwin and continued ok.However on completion the application would not open, after some time a message board came up"libclamav.dll was not found"Been here before so as previous did a clean install it came up that I was more than five days out of date do you want to update went for that also.after a few missed connections daily definitions downloaded.I did a scan on a small hard drive ok,seems that V97.4 does indeed run on win98se.
Read on net that with kernalEx I can upgrade to Opera V11.00 that's for another day my two computer brain cells aretired.

One KernelEX bug in ClamWin on 98 SE is this. One may have to set the main exe and its supporting dll's to the 2000 SP4 or XP SP2 mode. All shall be fine after that. It's OK even to set ALL the exe's and dll's to these modes, which I do especially when I want to get my mind off my ex. But KernelEX shall change Win 98 SE, not always for the best. ClamWin's Python and KernelEX do work well. There is one problem with ClamWin failing to detect possibly malicious temp files on Win 98 SE, and aru @ generally posts a 98 SE specific dll at msfn.org's 9x board to repair that vulnerability.

I'm sure there is not much malware that targets Win 98 now. Anything you would get would probably be malware specifically targeted for the XP and newer OS, and I expect there will be even less over time. Right now, they are getting a bead on Win 7 64 bit.

Hi again.

Up date to V0.95.5 same problem(see previous post) I removed older clamwin using Ccleaner and downloaded new one.At the download point accepted the default location and did not use the browse.

After instalitation saw icon on desktop but none in tasktray beside sentinel?I did an update daily's ,there was a lot of broken connections then a few downloads then a message could not complet for a reason I did not write down and do not remember.Had a look in add/remove programs and could not find clamwin on the list.Eventually found it in .temp files As it appeared to still work was not too bothered.

My anti malware is spybot search and destroy.Updated this a day or two later and clicked to update clamwin an intant response from spybot "w9xpop.exe" is bad guy remove NOW.Did this and tryed to open clamwin told it could not open as fore mentioned file was missing clasic catch 22.Used Go-back to get file back, on opening clamwin spybot blew it's lid again.

Pissed off, used Go-back and went to 4th July and older version of clamwin. This sits well with an updated spybot.
Is this a new file or is it corrupted?
Any of you out there use this combination of clamwin/spybot?

Regards Pulteny.
