Hi
I am using the current version of clamwin portable.I see the site where I can download
the daily cvd- then I put that where it is supposed to go-if I use the updater it dowloads
a few files and the daily cvd gets much larger-does it matter if I download the daily and
replace it or does the updater do something different-which should I use?
Regards
Rod

I would use the update via the ClamWin Portable program, but it shouldn't matter too much. I recall that in ClamWin there was some sort of build-up in the daily updates until they were compacted but it didn't affect operations. I thought it had been fixed via an addition to the ClamWin config file, but I really haven't looked at it lately. You might do a search in the ClamWin forums for something related to "daily buildup" "daily cvd" or similar.

I did a search on database size increase and found this fix:
All the guy needs to do is setting "CompressLocalDatabase" to yes in
freshclam.conf.
It worked for me once, but like I said, I haven't checked lately.

Thanks Bob
The portable version does not have that option to compress. If I download the daily each day manually then delete the daily that is in the db folder is that the right thing to do or does the daily have to be added so the db gets larger?I have been using the updater and it works fine but will I be up to date if I just delete the daily each day and replace it?
Thanks
Rod

Clam only integrates the daily database into the main database a few times a year. I understand it is sort of an involved process. If a smaller daily database makes you feel better, go ahead and do that.
Did you know you can run Clam Sentinel on USB with ClamWin Portable? There are instructions in the Clam Sentinel Simple Guide that comes with the install package. Don't put it on your hard drive if you run it from USB.
Thanks for using ClamWin products. Actually, each is a separate, unrelated project.
