As slug says, the email with the virus is in the inbox file. Clamwin currently just says there is a virus there in the file, it does not indicate which message holds the virus.
The point is that every time I scan I get a report of a virus found.
And I cannot do anything about it, so I have to ignore it.
Interestingly, I have recieved a spate of viruses (Worm.Lovgate.X) which have not been detected by clamwin until I save them to the hard drive. As attachments, clamwin doesn't seem to pick them up, I suppose because they are uue-encoded.

Do you know if the Thunderbird plugin is available for download now ? If yes, where can I get it ?
I think that many persons will appreciate a solution where we can use Free/Open/GNU applications only. (Instead MS Windows on MS platform for sure ).

gkb,
TB plugin is still in very very immature development (i need to learn the ways of mozilla programming first).
If there's anything that can be considered as beta, it will be announced on the website and this forum.

Hi guys,
I must admit i have lost track of it since the last posts. I'll see if i can get a working plugin within a month or two, based on the new 0.90.2.1 code for the outlook plugin. I'll have to setup the dev environment again first.
Once again, if anyone wants to pick this up, i can help you get started.
regards,
budtse

Something that *might* make things easier, I don't know for sure... What AVG 8.0 does in some cases is set up itself as a relay between the email server and the email client. The client (whatever it is) connects to the AVG server via loopback address, the AVG server retrieves the email from the email server (using username/password provided by the client), scans it, then hands it over to the email client (such as Thunderbird). I use this myself for two gmail accounts in TBird. (Hopefully I can get rid of AVG soon, but when you have no money, your options are limited )
I guess you could say that it acts as a proxy. My knowledge of the details is limited.
I don't know how much coding this would take compared to making an individual plugin for each client, but overall it might be easier.

NiveusLuna:
What you refer to is called a "proxy", and it is already implemented in the ClamMail project. I'm afraid ClamMail is no longer maintained though (last release was from july 2006).

Seems like Thunderbird extension project is dead. Is it? Last update in this thread is over a year now.

I think the problem is that anything done with ClamWin is done with spare time--after the needs of making a living have been met. Sometimes this doesn't leave very much time. In addition, FireFox has separated from the Thunderbird project, and the TB people are not quite sure where they are going or when.
In the meantime, the ClamWin staff/project can use all the help it can get.
Regards,

I stumbled upon a new TB plugin called clamdrib : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/6663
It does not work with ClamWin because the clamd daemon is not included in ClamWin but it seems to be working with ClamAV for Windows https://w32.clamav.net/ https://w32.clamav.net/.
