there is a reson for that - if the virus database is updated an email needs to be rescanned.

| Then there needs to be a setting to enable it or disable it |

because it is annoying to me.

next release (v1) willscan in outlook considerably faster so maybe it will be less annoying to you. Other users may prefer security over speed.

But what would it hurt to have a way to enable or disable this feature; one scan per email or continuous email scan. I receive a ton if emails that have large attachments and there are times when Outlook becomes NONRESPONSIVE due to this scan and rescan.
Maybe even a way to abort the scan so that you can get to the next email. |

it is not that trivial. There are winmail.dat issues on replies or forwards if a message contains custom properties, such as "Already Scanned". If it is that annoying to you please uninstall clamwin and install it without Outlook addin.

| OK I do not want to NOT have Outlook scanning... |

...that is not an answer.
And I am not proposing what you are referring to. My idea would be a separate dat file or database file that would allow ClamWin to KNOW which email it scanned. And if the ability existed to Right-Click scan any email that would also help. I program too and I am quite sure that a file that ClamWin would look into to see if a email was scanned or not would not be that difficult. The emails are just files and the dat file or database could just keep track of the ones that are scanned. Of course this file might not even exist for people that want scanning for every email. I cannot disable scanning as like I said I get a large number of attachments, and that is also the reason the scanning every time becomes annoying also. Do you see my dilema?? |

How about a Tools Menu item to enable/disable the Outlook AddIn?
It is annoying indeed to have to wait up to 20 seconds or so for the AddIn to do it's job when opening an e-mail with, say 15 jpeg files (each only 50kB). For now, I created two .reg files to enable/disable ClamWin before starting Outlook. Another welcome option would be to only scan executable attachments... and not mp3, gif, jpg or txt files. Of course, Outlook blocks most of those already, except when zipped or rarred. I know that jpeg's can be 'infected/malicious' too, but the risk is minimal on a system that is up to date with security patches. Just some thoughts... Anyway, when vill V1 be released? |

At least I know I am not the only one with this issue. I still think a way to identify each email as scanned or not is not that difficult -- even if it means creating a file that clamwin will use to track that separate from the email application it self.
