You can verify if a file is infected by uploading it to Jotti or Virus Total on the web. Either service will scan your file for free with multiple AV programs, including Clam AV, which furnishes the scan engine for ClamWin. I like to see several AVs verify a file is infected before I believe it. In particular, I look for at least 2 of these AVs to verify it: AntiVir, Bitdefender, NOD32, Kaspersky, or Sophos.
Virus Total is at https://www.virustotal.com/ and Jotti is at https://virusscan.jotti.org/en on the web. If the file turns out to be infected but Clam does not detect it, submit the file to Clam at https://www.clamav.net/lang/en/sendvirus/ on the web. If Clam detects the file, but it is a false positive (a false detection), also submit the file for signature correction, but change the submission type on the submission form from "virus" to "false positive" and give the name of the falsely-detected virus in the comments section of the submissin form.
