I would like to see ClamWin do this, but, presently, all ClamWin could do with the list is to block email (or any other file) containing a name on the block list. It would be more beneficial in a real-time environment where it can be used to block browser access to malware sites on the list. You can do this yourself right now, however, by using the Hosts file version of their list, and you can update it almost as often as you want (weekly would probably be sufficient). With a bit of coding, ClamWin could probably do this, as the process would be similar to updating the ClamWin database. The only problem would be if you are already using a custom hosts file, but I guess the ClamWin code could just append the block list to the custom Hosts file each time, or the use of the hosts file could be optional.
Internet Explorer presently does some blocking of internet addresses, and I'm sure so do the other browsers. Google has a similar list that can be invoked via an API. Spyware Blaster also uses a small block list of the most visible malware sites.
The good thing about this protection is that it would eliminate the need for signatures of viruses at the blocked sites. All you would have to do is block the sites. It is not as protective as you would think, however, because malware sites can be set up/taken down much quicker than the list can be changed.
Thanks for bringing this up. It would be a nice feature that provides some additional user protection. I hope something comes of it. Blocking bad sites is becoming a new mandatory requirement for a good antivirus program. In the meantime, try the Hosts file version of the block list. By the way, the Hosts file does not have a file extension, and it is located on most Windows OSes in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc. Just open up the block list, paint it, and add it to the end of the original Windows hosts file. Keep a backup copy of your old Microsoft Hosts file around however.
