Clamd 0.96.5 mingw daemon stops responding

Running ClamAV Mingw 0.96.5 on Windows 2003R2 in service (daemon) mode.

This works fine for a few days, but then the clamd service stops working.
The service is still reported "running", but TCP port 3310 is unavailable.
Clamdscan does no longer return from being called. The logs don't show any errors.
The issue is sporadic (about once a week on different servers). So far, I have
found no way to reproduce the error condition. Killing the service with
"taskkill.exe /f /im clamd.exe" and restarting the service solves the problem.

The previous clamd mingw version 0.96.4 did not have these issues.

In the hopes that this issue affects the mingw version only, I just changed the
ClamAV installations from mingw to win32 0.96.5 with the VC80.CRT "side by side".

Do you have suggestions on how I could debug the service failure?

Would it be possible to implement a timeout within clamdscan to exit with
an errorlevel if the clamd service does not respond properly?

Are you sure you have the right forums? These forums are for the ClamWin free antivirus program--not Clam AV. ClamWin does not even use clamdscan.

As Sherpya's "inofficial" ClamAV build is used in ClamWin and his name is listed as forum moderator here, I assumed this would be the right place to ask... could you please point me to the right forum?

looks like that only mingw builds are affected, msvc ones are ok

in the meanwhile I've uploaded 0.97 to my site
