Hello,
Was the virus DB update successful or did an unusual message appear? Try the update again and verify if freschlam is carrying out its procedure correctly. Rgds Antonio |

Hi Antonio S.,
I have tried over & over to do my daily manual downloads ... the download starts ... checks my headers and what not and even shows the latest database ... but the Download NEVER finalize ... I think it downloads the Update but it does not Close ... since I have seen my updates go from 9601 to 9623 as you see below here, I believe updates are happening Except somehow the FINALIZATION is clubbered in both Program Updates Downloads AND in SCANNING. Below is the text from my current Update Download that did NOT Finalize ... the light thingy just keep going until I maunally STOP it !!! ClamAV update process started at Mon Jul 27 22:32:56 2009 main.cvd is up to date (version: 51, sigs: 545035, f-level: 42, builder: sven) Downloading daily-9621.cdiff [100%] Downloading daily-9622.cdiff [100%] Downloading daily-9623.cdiff [100%] daily.cld updated (version: 9623, sigs: 59661, f-level: 43, builder: guitar) Database updated (604696 signatures) from database.clamav.net (IP: 65.120.238.2) -------------------------------------- Cancelled -------------------------------------- I also found this thread talking about the above IP and problems of updating dating back in 2008. So, I assume these problems have been happening for awhile. https://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/clamav/users/37746 https://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/clamav/users/37746 Q1: So, is there an UPDATE to the program that can FIX these problems!?!? Thanks, G! ![]() |

Try automatic updates and see if they work.
You didn't say what configuration you are using ClamWin on. Are you using a proxy to contact internet? Are you on a network? Have you made any changes in firewall or other security software? Regards, |

Hi GuitarBob,
Actually I thought I had not changed anything ... but I did upgrade my Comodo Firewall Personal (Free version) from 3.9.95478.509 to CFP 3.10.102363.531. BTW, I am on a regular internet service with a fast line ... like T2. I might just go ahead and unistall CFP 3.10 and go back CFP 3.9 just to see what happens! If that is the case it should ONLY impact the Download and NOT the Execution of the program and the Scans ... right!?!? ![]() Thanks, G! ![]() |

I believe that is right--the firewall shouldn't be concerned with program execution except when it involves calling out.
I hope that is your problem. I tried Comodo Firewall a year or so ago and found it too restrictive for my tastes, but you should be able to set up ClamWin as "trusted." Regards, |

Hello,
according to the log it seems that freshclam was able to access to db update. If problem persist maybe it should be useful to download and copy the main.cvd and daily.cvd files to the clamwin db folder and check if the scans are carried out regularly. BTW I also ceased to use Commodo and currently use Pc tools personal firewall; this could be a choice for a further test. Regards, Antonio |

Hello,
I have also just downloaded an update just two days ago and I am now encountering problems... I am not on a network and just using a broadband net access. I haven't made any changes on my firewall settings and I don't know why this is happening. Hope someone can help me. Thanks. https://emoquiz.net Emo Quiz |

Perhaps one of the ClamWin developers should provide some expertise here.
If you want to download the main and daily cvd signature files, they can be downloaded (one at a time) at https://www.clamav.net/ on the web. Click on each one and download to your ClamWin directory. You should delete the existing old signature files before you do a scan. Then do a scan and see what happens. Regards, |

Hi GuitarBob, I downloaded the "main.cvd" and "daily.cvd" from Clamwin website you provided ... Q1: In what folder do I place these files? Clamwin Bin or Lib? Q2: Double clicking on them within the Bin or Lib folder ... would it get rid of duplicate or OLD files? Q3: How do you know which is the OLD files? Thanks, G! ![]() |

The OLD files will be those with the oldest date . They will probably have an extension of .cld (main and daily). They will be in the directory show in ClamWin's Preferences, Virus Database folder (it differs depending upon your version of Windows). You can right click on the file while you are within Windows Explorer and then choose Delete to get rid of an old one.

On Vista I found them on C:\ProgramData\.clamwin\db On XP C:\Documents and Settings\All users\.clamwin\db Follow Bob's hints to check older files and delete them. Let us know if after that scanning operations are going back to normal. Regards, Antonio |
