Welcome to ClamWin! There are normally a couple of Windows files that have permission denied from scanning. There are also a few programs that do the same. You have to look at the files involved to determine if something is wrong. In addition, if you are not running as Administrator, you will have permission denied on files.

With regard to virtual memory being low, what kind of system are you using ClamWin on (OS, RAM memory).

The default configuration that comes with ClamWin is usually okay for most people/systems.

You occasionally may have a problem with updating ClamWin (most programs have such problems at times), but it shouldn't last long. Try again a while later--several times maybe. Make sure you have ClamWin set to enable automatic internet updates with an acceptable time for you--you can still use manual updates any time you want. Some people have had problems updating lately. If your problem persists, please get back here. You can also do a search on the ClamWin forums for "update problem" or something similar for additional information.

Donnag, if you downloaded ClamWin from this ClamWin website here, it is okay. You should not download it from anywhere else because it may be rogue software. If you have a virus that ClamWin doesn't detect, if you can identify the file containing the virus, upload a copy of the file to Clam AV (Clam furnishes the scanning engine and virus database for ClamWin) starting at https://www.clamav.net/sendvirus/ on the web. When you get to the upload page, fill out the form and upload the file. Tell them why you think it contains a virus. If it is infected, Clam will prepare a signature in a couple of days, and ClamWin will get it in its database.

Yes, in order to upload a file containing malware, you need to be able to access the file and upload it to Clam AV. A scan log will not do any good at all--they can't get a signature from that! Anyway, if you have identified the malware and deleted it with another AV, that's fine. The important thing is to get it off your computer or disable it.

I see the infected files were primarily spyware. Clam/ClamWin have some of the most prevalent spyware in their signature databases, but they are not dedicated antispyware programs, so they can always use some more spyware signatures in their database. If you find any more spyware that isn't detected by Clam/ClamWin, try to quarantine it and then upload the file to Clam from quarantine.

It's probably best to use ClamWin as a backup-scanner, since it only scans on-demand when you request it--it is not a real-time scanner that kicks in when files are placed on your computer. Since it is not a real-time scanner, it will not conflict with another scanner that is real-time.
