Antiviruses are kind of like people. There are many of them, and each one works a little differently. One may do better than others under certain conditions. The published AV tests do not tell the whole story. If you want to select an antivirus, you should get a test version of a few you might like and use them (one at a time) for a month or so. Don't install/use more than one at a time.

For starters, Clam scans all its virus file submissions with Kaspersky, Bitdefender, and Dr. Web.

I agree to that, there are many anti-virus programs, which have their own way of scanning. Thus, I suggest you have 2-3 anti-virus programs. You should also try this online program in housecall65.trendmicro.com. Good luck!

You should not have more than one AV set up for real-time scanning. Real-tine AVs scan when files are opened, closed or saved. Two real-time scanners will work your computer too much, so you only want one set up for real-time scanning. You can have some real-time antimalware/antispyware scanners working with a real-time AV scanner, however, because they scan a little differently. Be sure the antimalware/antispyware scanner says that you can use them with an AV.

I recomended you using avast home edition or avira "both are goods but avast look like a full av for free"
use anti spyware like:spybot s&d or super anti spyware
malware bytes anti malware is good in cases of scanning registry.
