From reading the FAQ, I found that there are two files that ClamWin uses for signatures: main.cvd and daily.cvd.

I know I could use freshclam to update the definitions, but for my purposes, I will be downloading them manually.

My question is, when it comes to updating the definitions, do I just replace those files each time? Or does main.cvd stay the same and I just need to replace daily.cvd? Or something else?

Any information is appreciated.

The automatic updates from Clam are incremental--only the new signatures are received. Automatic updating works best.

The Main signature database stays the same for several months--the Daily signature database will change. There is no regular schedule for incorporating the daily database within the main database. Additionally, version .96 will have another signature database--bytecode signatures which will be updated.
