This is probably a problem with your DNS settings on your PC.

Assuming you're behind a router:

Try configuring your DNS manually to point to your ISP's DNS server(s) rather than to your router's IP address.

To do this: Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > right click your network connection > Properties > double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > fill in your ISP's DNS server(s)

To find your ISP's DNS servers, you'll probably have to look in your router's configuration settings. I'm not gonna go into that here.

Thank you very much, alan!!! Gives me a place to start.

Going online to find out about my router...does anyone want to clue me in to any dangers I'm about to wade into by changing these addresses??

I have tried it changing the Belkin router address to the DNS addresses. There was no danger involved. It did not work in my case so I changed them back.
So far I have downloaded the main and daily cvd files and placed them in the db folder but beyond that I am not sure what to do.
Does any one know, is there a freshclam conf file. There is one for clamav but it gives no guidance on the subject.
Cheers

The application - w9xpopen - which is in the bin directory (c:\Program Files\ ClamWin\bin\w9xpopen) needs the following two files to function properly.

--config-file="c:\windows\temp\tmpktqhhw" --log="c:\windows\temp\tmpxd_byx"

I found that these files are not in the expected location and therefore, w9xpopen, which is designed to facilitate the database download in Win 95/98 is unable to do so. And it seems unless these two files are found users with Win95/98 will have problems in downloadng the db.

Cheers
