Scanning progress: blank screen

I have just installed ClamWin and updated the virus database. I have set the preferences to show % scanned. I tried to scan my flash drive by selecting E: and clicking Scan. Sure enough, a new window pops up with "ClamWin Free AntiVirus: Scanning..." at the top of the screen, and a moving display of files in the left column (to indicate something is happening, perhaps), but I wait and wait, and no information about the scan appears in the main viewing area on this screen. And when I finally click "Stop" I receive the following message:

Scan Started Thu Jun 26 13:21:43 2008
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scanning aborted...

----------- SCAN SUMMARY -----------
Known viruses: 57265
Engine version: 0.90.1
Scanned directories: 0
Scanned files: 0
Skipped non-executable files: 0
Infected files: 0

Data scanned: 0.00 MB
--------------------------------------
Cancelled
--------------------------------------

This suggests to me there is not actual scanning going on. I tried checking the help files, looking at the user interface, and searching on this forum, but have not found a solution to this. Any suggestions for how to troubleshoot this problem?

Thank you

Solving my own problem (in a fashion): just after I posted my previous question, I got a message saying a new update for ClamWin was available. I updated and tried to do the scan again, and it ran with no problem.
