It appears that ClamWin has achieved enough notice for some people to try to make money from the demand for it. Here is a reference to a project (Indian, I think) that earlier this year advertised for coders to modify ClamWin for their own purposes. To give some legitimacy to their project, they claim that they are in contact with the ClamWin developers. The link to this is https://www.getacoder.com/projects/clamwin_antivirus_client_43721.html and this sounds to me like something illegal. I don't know if the ClamWin developers can/want to do anything about it--just thought I'd alert them. Does the GNU license have any teeth in it? |
You are allowed to charge whatever you want to redistribute ClamWin. However, when you distribute it, you are required to license your modifications under the GPL and make no further restrictions other than what the GPL contains. Oh yeah, you have to make the source available too. Check out https://gpl-violations.org for examples of the "teeth."
