First let me congratulate the team for what appears to be a good product. Even though I have installed and run Clamwin to good effect, my queery is, why does windows security message on strartup still tell me I might not be protected

ClamWin isn't integrated with the Windows Security Center, which requires a bit of communication between an AV product and Windows. ClamWin isn't a real-time scanner--just an "on-demand" scanner that you can tell/schedule it to scan a file, a directory, or an entire hard drive. Because of this, you are NOT protected in "real-time," and if you surf the web often or download files a lot, you should use a real-time scanner and employ ClamWin as a backup. There are several good free real-time scanners: Threatfire from PC Tools, AntiVir from Avira and Avast from Alwil.

Regards,
