Previous versions were not showing permission denied messages while scanning locked or non accessible files,
we decided to change the behavior because it's more useful to have track of non scanned directories

so, starting with 0.94, you will get permission denied on locked files, most common files are:
Code:

- pagefile.sys: the swap file (on the root of an unit)
- hiberfile.sys: the hibernation file  (on the root of an unit)
- windows\system32\config -> system, software, etc: registry hives, they are locked by the OS
- WIN386.SWP: Win9x swap file
- C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\DataStore.edb: windows update files, not accessible while wu service is running
- non accessible files like other user's profiles

a locked file can also be a malware with modified file permissions to avoid opening it
but anyway clamwin is not able to scan it so I think it's better to inform the user
Please don't harm for common system files

Re: Relevant Knowledge, it's a tracking cookie. I don't think it's in a sys file. You should be able to kill it with a good antispyware program. For more info, check this out:

----------- SCAN SUMMARY -----------

Scanned files: 12215

I stopped the scan part way through so I could post here. I'm not understanding the other posts. Does the above partial scan report mean that all these files are suspect and have viruses or does it just mean they're protected and a virus couldnt access them anyway?

Thanks in anticipation.

no indeed they do not look as suspected, but previous versions was silently ignoring non accessible files
we decided to not hide this information

I only just downloaded Clamwin and I did my first scan the other day and after every single file it was saying permission denied. I'm a bit panicked about this. What do I do about it? I've been told that Clamwin is an easy to use, reliable virus software but I'm starting to question that. It was after every file and I'm a bit confused about everthing thats been said on this board so far. Can someone help, in simple terms please?

I ran another scan today just so I could make sure it wasn't a one off and here are the results:

There are some files that ClamWin cannot scan because they are locked by the operating system. It also cannot scan a file if it is being used by another program at the same time ClamWin tries to scan it. There should not normally be very many files like this. I will normally have a couple during my scans. Run a scan on your machine with another AV and see what it says in its scan report.

Sherpya was saying that he recently changed ClamWin so that it reports files it cannot scan--it previously did not report them.

I have a permission denied question, but I've noticed it since I restored my computer because of a DCIMAN25 prob. Is this just stuff that used to be hidden? Is it safe to make .dll files an exception on the scan? Thanks for all your help. Here is a bit of the scan report

Wow! Thanks Sherpya. Is there a way to get ClamWin into the .dll files then?

these files are protected, maybe you need to be administrator or some app incorrectly set as unreadable for your user

I'm new to ClamWin, and need help interpreting the results of this scan. I'm not sure about the denials, could there be a problem? If I scan in safe mode would ClamWin have access to these files. Thanks in advance.

All of the files, with the exception of the Lavasoft one are in the system directory. I don't think I have seen them before. They may be related to the Lavasoft program. How long have you been using it, and what operating system are you running? Also, what other security programs are you running (antivirus/antispyware)?

Make sure you are running with Administrator privileges. If you haven't been running as Adminstrator, set it up, and then do a scan and see if that changes things. Yes, you might try a scan in Safe Mode if running as Admin doesn't help.

If you think you might be infected, download the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware program and Dr. Web's free Cureit program and run scans with them--Dr. Web first. You don't need to install Cureit--just download it to your desktop and click on the Spider icon. You can get their locations from the ClamWin Antimalware page, accessable from the main page.

Please keep us informed as to your progress.

i downloaded this program clam free antivirus and stoped it half way in and decided i didnt like it. so the first thing i tried to do is delete the saved file i had in documents, it said i couldnt because it was in use by another program. any how i uninstalled the program and then deleted the saved file in documents. to make the long story short, on another computer on my network is showing locked files now on its antivirus which is avg that i paid for. i never ran clam on this computer. of course my other computer is showing locked files now that i downloaded clam with, but im using another antivirus now. ok first of all what kind of behavior is this that an antivirus effects another computer that the program isent even installed on? next how do i get these to stop now that im not using clam. im not that advanced in computers to understand the beauty in this program, but from my knoledge i have i dont like what i see. how do i get my computers back to normal!!!! Question
