My name is John T. Haller and I'm the lead developer of apps like Portable Firefox and Portable OpenOffice.org. Since there has been some good interest in ClamWin as a portable app, I've put together a pre-built package for people to use portably. It includes a launcher that updates the INI file as needed and it works out of the box in the standard directory structures used by the other portable apps as well as the Portable Apps Suite.

As with the other portable apps, the source for ClamWin is unmodified. The app is UPX compressed to save a couple MB and the launcher is added to tie things together. I'd love to get any comments or suggestions from other ClamWin users out there.

The product page is on PortableApps.com here:
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/antivirus/portable_clamwin

The project page is on SourceForge here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/

Regards,
John

just noticed that in the CalmWin features on https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/antivirus/portable_clamwin you say:

# Scanning Scheduler
# Automatic downloads of Virus Database updates. ClamAV team regularly updates Virus Databases to include a new virus/variant immediately after it appears

But is scheduler for scans and updates available with portable clamwin?

I believe so, if you leave it on. Though that wouldn't necessarily be what most people would do. There are, however, some folks that 'live' portably and run off their portable drive for 8-12 hours a day.

Scheduler would only run if ClamTray.exe is running and I don't see it started when I run PortableClamWin.exe

so perhaps it would be better to make a note here:
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/antivirus/portable_clamwin

that scheduler and automatic database updates are not available

EDIT: with Standalone=1 there is no Scheduler and Database tabs, so running clamtray is pointless. and the note should me given. I don't think that enabling those tabs would do any good in standalone mode because clamtray is not automatically run (and it shouldn't be) hence scheduler is unavailable.

Good point. Done.

BTW - Why isn't quoting working right?

Thanks a lot for releasing Portable Clamwin, it is very much appreciated. As for the quotes in phpbb I have no idea, seems not to like ="alch" in your posts... Weird.

You're welcome. I'm happy to do what I can to expose more people to excellent open source software... and allow them to use it in new ways.

John, you may remove the false positives from the knwon issues now. It has been promptly fixed by clamav db team a while ago, you need to update the virus db for them to go away.

Yeah, I forgot to update that yesterday when I noticed it. There's still one in VLC but the launchers aren't detected anymore.
