Plan A:
I think the best thing for you to do is to get a copy of Malwarebytes' Anti Malware program and do a scan with it. MBAM has a free version that has an on-demand scanner. The Malwarebytes location is listed on the ClamWin Anti-Malware page. Antimalware products are better at find/removing/cleaning the fake AV infections, which can be accompanied by LOTS of changes to your system. The AV progroams don't do as complete a job of cleaning up stuff like that as an anti-malware program does. Plan B: ClamWin can remove an infected file from your computer if the infecting virus is in the Clam signature database and if it is not hidden by a rootkit component. A scan in Windows Safe Mode can "unhide" some (not all) hidden malware. If you are sure you are infected, you can try a Safe Mode scan, which will take longer than a usual scan. Keep ClamWin's preferences set to Report--not Quarantine or Remove. If it reports an infection, and it is not in an important Windows file, then set preferences to Quarantine or Remove and do another Safe Mode ClamWin scan. That should take care of it. Plan C: Contact one of the expert malware removal sources listed on the ClamWin Anti-Malware page. Regards, |
