How come pretty much everything else has --help plus some examples in the help file?

Here's what I already know that can be used:
--mode=X
(the only X I know of here is "scanner").
--path=Y
(Y is the file/folder).
--close
(Closes the report if there are no viruses found so as not to waste your time).

How about the full official list?

Thanks!

because these command line parameters are for internal use. Use clamscan.exe if you need to scan files in command line mode.
anyway the available useful commands are:

scan a folder or a file: --mode=scanner --path=... (path is a mandatory option here) [--close]
    run database update: --mode=update [--close]
    check for latest version: --checkversion

Yes, my internal use. Wink

Anyway, I managed to run the update, but --checkversion doesn't seem to do anything. It just lanunches Clamwin. Are you sure it's just --checkversion? And isn't there a --close or something?

Thanks!

--checkversion would only display a notification window if there is an update so it does nothing by design

But it just launches Clamwin. I've monitored it and it doesn't even connect to the Internet to check!
In this point I should also mention that the GUI's version of "check for updates" just launches the browser.
If a browser is what it takes, should --checkversion do something else altogether?

Oh, now something happened. It connected to projects.sourceforge.net. So I guess it's an alternative to the GUI's browser launching? But what will it do if there is an upgrade?

Also, is there a command line parameter to update for daily/main.cvd? It would be so great to update them via a script.

no, it will display a notofocation window above the tray with a changelog. You will see it when an update is released.

you can use:
clamwin.exe --mode=update [--close] (see my above post)

or use freshclam.exe

Oh, I missed it.

Is there also a --close to --mode=checkversion ?
And can it be done without the tray icon just like --mode=update can be done without it?

You've never actually said "--mode=checkversion [--close]", but oh well.

If it can run with "--close", I assume the update would be forced (should there be one) - that is, there would be no yes/no prompt?

sorry I misread your post, there is no --close parameter for --mode=checkversion

--mode=checkversion does not automatically download and update clamwin. When an updated version is available it will display the notification window above your tray icon and a user then need to click on download button and install the software manually.

Edit:
check this screenshot tp get an idea how will it look like:

So there is no --close and there is a prompt. But what if there's no tray icon? Will I still get the prompt?
